Cutting down on dumb TD celebrations

Once again, the NFL Competition Committee is meeting to address the silly and stupid touchdown celebrations practiced by players like Terrell Owens and Chad Johnson. The idiot sports networks like ESPN will call the NFL the "No Fun League" for doing this, mainly because outrageous TD celebrations are the kinds of things ESPN likes to discuss rather than, well... SPORTS. If the committee votes to rein in more celebrations, Chad Johnson vows that such restrictions will not "stop someone as creative as me. How can this bother someone as creative as me?"

I might suggest to Chad that he focus more on not attacking teammates and coaches in the lockerroom at halftime of a playoff game rather than thinking of new and "creative" ways to celebrate after a TD. I suggest he follow the strategy of the receiver Chad most wants to emulate: Marvin Harrison. Harrison, at age 33, is a first ballot Hall of Famer if he retired right now. Right now, at 33, he's still better than the younger and faster Chad Johnson. He has scored 110 total TDs in his career, and after each and every one he has simply handed the ball to the ref and jogged to the sideline.

That's cool. Jim Brown cool.

Holding up a sign saying "Look at me! I scored a TD! Yayyyyy!" is dumb, and makes you look like an ambling clown rather than a football player.

That's dumb. Jar-Jar Binks dumb.

If the NFL reins in TD celebrations, it will be a good thing. No one cares for them, except dorks and losers who apparently get more entertainment out of watching a guy "celebrate" by wiping a football like a baby's butt rather than enjoy the move he made on the CB to get open. The game is entertaining. The celebrations are annoying and are meant to take attention away from the team. Hence, they serve zero purpose.

One of the big reasons New England won three Super Bowls in four years is the fact that star players put egos aside for the team. Chad Johnson should take note of this, and focus more on winning games than "creative" TD celebrations.
