More Mock Notes

A few notes from Geoff Hobson's latest novel.

  • Anthony Wright worked well with Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh.  Combined, both starting wide receivers caught 18 passes for 249 yards. All indications are that Wright will be the number two QB starting the first two pre-season games and possibly the first regular season game.
  • Keiwan Ratliff had a great game.  Head coach Marvin Lewis says Rashad Bauman is having the best camp among cornerbacks.  Chuck Bresnahan says that Johnathon Joseph is "doing a great job".
  • David Pollack suffered a hamstring injury in Friday's intra-squad game and is day-to-day.  At worst, he could miss three weeks.
  • Kyle Larson is looking great.  Perhaps being the only punter -- not having someone else breathing down his neck -- is making him more comfortable.
  • Eric Henderson had two sacks against the first team offensive line.
  • Madieu Williams seems fully recovered.
  • Bennie Brazell suffered a cramp Friday night; nothing serious.

Anthony...
I was never really an Anthony Wright fan while he was in Baltimore. But so far it sounds like he will at least be a serviceable back-up. I hope Carson is ready for the KC game but if not hopefully Anthony can get the job done.

McNeal?
Do you think it would be conceivable to have Reggie McNeal become the #3 QB in place of Doug Johnson? Just a random thought...

I hope...
I would like to see McNeal make the roster somehow. It seems more conceivable that he would have to make the team as the #3 QB since the Bengals are just too deep at WR for him to make it that way. I would think that it will depend on how Carson progresses throughout the rest of the pre-season. If it doesn't appear that Carson will be ready for the opener then Doug Johnson will have to be one of the back-ups just because at this point he is more ready for NFL game action than McNeal.

Especially with Bennie
Good point about Doug.  I keep thinking (maybe it's mindless hope) that Palmer will be ready by game #1.  Even though it seems the team and Palmer is less and less confident than they were in mini-camps.

I really haven't heard much about McNeal this spring.
