Shayne Graham inactive

Doesn’t appear that Graham will be able to kick with his leg injury. He’s listed as inactive today.

This is the first time that Graham has missed a game as a Cincinnati Bengal.

Dave Rayner will take over kickoff, FG and PAT duties.

John Thornton also inactive

Thornton being out, gives Pat Sims his first chances at snaps on defense this season. Orien Harris is starting for Thornton.

but maybe completely changing things with no palmer and a new DT is what we need to get it done.

Benson will need to have a huge game and try to show Jones that he’s the better back

by R.F. Mehl on Oct 12, 2008 11:59 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

That's my hope too.

Fitzpatrick realizes the problems he created last time (Browns) by trying way too damned hard to make something happen.

And I’m VERY curious to see how Sims does. I’m not expecting much though; he’s still young and Lewis, at this point, still hasn’t been given enough confidence to throw him in there — otherwise he wouldn’t have waited for Thornton’s injury.

But I’m with you. Interesting to see how this team does changing things up — though through injury.

Third keys

Granted, these are important in every game. But with Fitzpatrick at QB, the team needs to focus on having Fitzpatrick manage the game, rather than trying to win the game.

1) Convert third downs.
2) No turnovers
3) Not allowing big plays defense

Hobson on Rayner
Rayner hasn’t exactly been a long-range dialer on field goals during stints with San Diego, Green Bay, Kansas City, and Indianapolis. He’s 13-for-19 from both 30-39 yards and 40-49 yards and 1-for-5 from 50 and beyond. He’s missed only one of 15 field-goal tries from inside 30 and missed one of 46 extra-point tries.

The blocks could be a problem. Three of his attempts have been blocked and he’s had virtually no time with long snapper Brad St. Louis and holder Kyle Larson.

Jets defense.

They’re 31st against the pass, and 5th against the run.

However, against the pass, that 265 yards-per-game allowed against the pass was inflated after Kurt Warner threw for 472 yards — in the other three games, the Jets haven’t given up more than their current average allowed.

Same thing could be applied with their impressive 75 yards per game allowed rushing. The Cardinals were down 34-0 at half time and rushing was out of the picture in the second half — thus (backwards) inflating their averages.

They’ve allowed 100 yards rushing in two games, win over the Patriots, loss to the Chargers.

Shit. Fitzpatrick fumbles the ball.

Fitz scrambles to the right, about to throw, but has the ball stripped and the Jets recovered.

Touchdown.

Bengals defensive line just manned by the Jets O-line. Jones followed his blocks into the endzone.

Peko was blocked out, and Harris was also a non-factor

The Jets, when they run up the middle, block our Defensive tackles too easily — except for that one play that Fanene and Peko made a play.

Only thing I can say is

it’s very painful to be a Bengals fan.

Looks like Ghiaciuc’s guy, coming over the middle.

THROW TO CHAD

when was the last time we actually threw it down the field to Chad??

by Diesel2405 on Oct 12, 2008 2:04 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I don’t think there’s enough time to wait for him to get downfield. Fitz would get sacked three times before Chad could run more than 10 yards.

Ghiaciuc or Fitz

who do you think is the worse player on this team? it has to be a toss up between these two

by Diesel2405 on Oct 12, 2008 2:06 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Third downs

1) Third and 18… Bengals punt
2) Third and seven (incomplete, over throw to Perry)… Bengals punt.
3) Third and four (fumble)… Jets run for TD on Turnover.
4) Third and 16… Bengals punt.

Can't blame Brat on this.

We’re just being owned at the line of scrimmage. Our players are terrible today.

by Diesel2405 on Oct 12, 2008 2:13 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, he is!!!!

I loved how he started jogging his go route in the second half that would have been an easy touchdown if he hadn’t slowed down and then had to try to run like Usain Bolt to catch up to Fitz’s pass!!!1

Went for it on fourth

Fitz rolled out to the right and hit T.J. on the right sidelines.

On first down

Fitz throws to T.J. about 2 yards beyond the LOS. T.J. was hit when the ball arrived, fumbling/juggling the pass and nearly picked. Incomplete.

Ben Utecht was WIDE WIDE OPEN over the middle of the field.

Incomplete

Fitz, in shotgun, throws the ball to the right corner pylon. Henry catches the ball, but the ball was thrown too far out of bounds. Didn’t have a chance.

Third and G

Fitz, throws over the middle of the field to Utecht. GREAT catch with guy behind him, and in front of him. Window was small. Bengals pick up the first down.
