Most Memorable Bengals Games Ever?

Hey Guys,

I'm new to the site but love what I see so far and can't wait to get more involved.

A question for you though- If you were to think back over the past 30 years or so of Bengals football, which individual games stick out most in your minds?  Things like huge comebacks, miraculous wins, crazy things that happened in the stands, SuperBowls, conference championships,  blunder type games (Leon Lett type things)?

Thanks guys!!  Just trying to get some insight into what makes the Bengals so special to so many of us!!

Most Memorable Games

The Good…

1. Freezer Bowl — AFC Championship in ‘81 vs. San Diego
2. AFC Championship Game against Buffalo in ’88
3. Bengals upset 9-0 Chiefs in PBS in 2003
4. Bengals beat Steelers in Pittsburgh late in ’05 season to solidify AFC North title
5. Brown/Bengals shootout at PBS in ’04
6. Corey Dillon rumbles for 278 against Denver in ’00
7. Dillon breaking Jim Brown’s rookie rushing record against the Oilers at home in ’97
8. Bengals beat Seattle in home playoff game in ’88 (“The Joe Nash Game”)
9. Bengals beat Washington to win division title on last game of the season — also in ’88 (Chip Lohmiller hits the upright)
10. Bengals beat Lions in Detroit to win AFC North crown in ’05

  • Kind of sad most of it revolves around ’88 and ’05

The Bad… (Where should we start?)

1. Joe Montana-to-John Taylor…‘88 Super Bowl
2. “Kimo” game…Carson P injured at home vs. Steelers in Playoffs
3. Bengals can’t punch it in from the 1 yd line…‘81 Super Bowl against the 49ers
4. Shayne Graham misses 39 yd GW field goal that would have punched the Bengals’ playoff ticket — last game of the ‘06 season vs. Pittsburgh
5. Favre beats Bengals in his first game of his career in ’92 (** it was all down hill from there)
6. Lee Suggs rushes for 186 yds and the Browns beat the Bengals at home on the last game of the ’03 season — Bengals needed to win to get into the playoffs.
7. Pick any home Steelers loss from the past decade
8. Mike Brown Era (1991 – Present)
9. Specifically — the ENTIRE 1990’s
10. Specifically — the ENTIRE ’08 season

Honorable Mention:

  • Fan storms the field to steal the ball out of Brett Favre’s hands — helping Bengals preserve win vs. Green Bay — 2005

Win over KC in '03

I think the choices above are great selections, but I really wanted to give a second nod to the win over KC in ‘03. It wasn’t just a win, but it was a game where at the end we were all thinking to ourselves… “finally… finally, we’re here. All that BS for 12-13 years is behind us. Different era.” It changed everything. Then again, five years later………………….

There's something ...

really fishy about this guy, mjy … he’s posted the same exact message on a bunch of other team blogs. If you’re legit, mjy, sorry dude … but you seem fishy. What are you up to?

Boomer's last game

I remember it like it was yesterday. It was against the Baltimore Ratbirds. We won the game and everyone knew (although it wasn’t announced) that it was the last time we’d see Boomer in stripes. He brought Gunner out and carried him onto the field on his shoulders.

The Wyche “You don’t live in Cleveland, you live in Cincinnati” saying is a close 2nd.
