Open Thread: Off-season Priority list
This is kind of like the game thread. I wanted to get your impressions of what the team should prioritize this off-season. I'll start, you guys run with it. In no particular order to start:
- Re-signing T.J. Houshmandzadeh
- Changing offensive coordinator
- Drafting an offensive tackle and center

Avoid overpaying for FA (Ben Utecht = $187500 per catch), although unpredictable circumstances did limit his chances.
It’s funny, I was at the Tenn. game when he got laid out.

Well, that's a catch 22
Players generally won’t come here unless they get overpaid.

D-Line
They gave Fanene and Peko a three-year extension last off-season, gave Geathers a hellva deal after 2006 and got Odom signed to a big unproductive deal last off-season. There’s no way the Bengals will offer a FA big cash for the top available d-linemen.

At least, I think they won't.
Based on their history.

Hire a new training staff...
the amount of players on IR can’t be due to just bad luck. Trainers/weight coaches are key to ensuring players can last through a 16 game season. This year, the proof is in the pudding. 23 (or is it more) players on IR is just unacceptable.

"+1"
And it’s not like everyone suffered massive ligament ripping injuries. I can’t remember how many players were out for several games, or the season, based on hamstring injuries.

offseason
- resign TJ and Benson
- draft a pass rusher
- I believe Matt Birk (Center – Minny) will be a free agent – sign him
- shore up the O-line

WR
I think choosing the right receivers to keep is a really important issue.
We can’t keep Chad, TJ, Henry, Caldwell, and Simpson, given all of the deficiencies in the running game and the pass rush.
We should either let TJ go and use that money to get the best o-lineman, or trade Chad.
I’d also like to see Levi cut, and Stacy Andrews allowed to leave.
