The Bengals will pick sixth in the 2009 NFL Draft

Remember those debates when undefeated teams were making a run at 16-0? Some even said that a team going 16-0 would be more likely than a team going 0-16. In 2007, the Patriots went 16-0. In 2008, the Lions went 0-16. With their 10 point loss to the Packers, the Detroit Lions will pick first in the 2009 NFL Draft. The Chiefs (thanks to the Bengals), Rams, Browns and Seahawks will round out the top-five.

The Bengals, with no worries of dealing with any tie breakers thanks to the tie against the Eagles, will pick sixth in the NFL draft.

The last time the Bengals selected sixth in the NFL draft, they took a flyer on Houston quarterback David Klingler.

Oh. No.

Don't ever do that again...

When you say that ‘David’ word together with that ‘Klingler’ word, it sorta makes my head hurt and the room starts to act all silly.

I'd be all for that...

under the condition the Bengals can get either a Center or OT in the first round of the draft. The only skill players worth a top pick (Bradfork (bust in the making in my opinion), Stafford, or Crabtree) are not who the Bengals need. Picking Sixth may allow the Bengals to trade down and still pick in the top 10. With Crazy Al Davis just behind us, perhaps we can unload sixth pick for a steal.

Trade....down.....????

The words ‘trade’ and ‘down’ don’t really figure with a guy like Mike Brown. That would require strategy and negotiations with other teams. I don’t see it.

Besides, how often do teams trade up into the top ten? How often is it worth the money to sign these supposed top players?

Bradfork?

I’m an even worse typist than I thought :)

At 6, Oher and Andre Smith are probably gone- though depending on workouts for Orakpo and Aaron Curry, one of the tackles might drop to us. Trading down, we could still probably get Eugene Monroe or, maybe even better, Alex Mack, the all-world center from Cal. I’d like to see some sort of package, maybe with Chad, say our #6 and Chad for a 10-15 in the first and a second and third. We still might be able to grab Ciron Black at our regular second round spot but it’s iffy, perhaps the gigantic Herman Johnson, Black’s linemate at LSU?

If we could put Mack at center, Williams and the abovementioned Johnson at guard, Whit and Collins at tackle, and Ghiacuic, Livings, and Roland in reserve? Of course, with Herman Johnson at guard, Ryan Fitzpatrick couldn’t ever play QB again because he wouldn’t be able to see- or throw- over the gargantuan. Did I mention he was the largest baby ever born in the state of Louisiana?

First order of business, though, either sign up or franchise T.J. and sign Benson and Crocker before the other teams come circling.

In no way, shape, or form, should Chad be a Bengal next year.

Either trade or let Stacy Andrews go as a free agent- whichever provides more compensation.

Send both Jason Shirley and Pat Sims to a big man boot camp with Warren Sapp in the offseason.

Either find a free agent fullback or pencil in Jorvorskie Lane, Texas A&M actual juggernaut- as opposed to the ersatz juggernaut ,Regan Maui’ia, in the third.

Get Coats, Lawrie, Sherry, and Utecht a new gig as a barbershop quartet or as showy bodyguards for people who aren’t actually in any real danger.

Make Chris Henry move in with Ned and Maud FlandersCorey Lynch and Billy Graham’s granddaughter for the entire offseason. Ben Utecht will probably visit on dates with Shane Graham.

Insist that T. J. participate in off-season workouts here with his teammates both for timing issues with Carson and to mentor Simpson and Caldwell.

Completely off topic but does it warm anybody else’s heart as much as mine to watch the Cowboys, Jerry Jones, Terrell Owens, Tony Romo, ect. shit the bed on national television on the wrong end of a 44-6 drubbing to end their season?

Broken news

Andre Smith- all world left tackle from Alabama and even odds favorite to be 2009’s first pick outside of Detroit’s hunt for a QB, has been suspended for the Sugar Bowl and sent home for improper contact with an agent. Though it shouldn’t affect his status at all- more than likely it was the slimy agent’s fault, maybe we’ll get lucky and he’ll fall to 6.

How long will it take them to sign the 6th pick?

Pick number 6th is traditionally hard to sign because it’s not an exact slot from top 5 to number 7 pick. So with the Bengals history of not signing picks on time how long do you think it will take them to sign this one? How long did it take the to sign Klingler?

Klingler after the NFL

From Wiki

David Klingler entered school at Dallas Theological Seminary, earning a Master’s degree in Theology. He currently attends Dallas Seminary and is working on a Ph.D. ESPN mentioned Klingler during the opening game of ESPN’s Monday Night Football, and he was featured in the spring 2006 edition of Dallas Theological Seminary’s magazine, Kindred Spirit.2

You have to admit, that’s pretty impressive. Few self-serving NFL players actually leave the NFL, find something else, and work to become an expertise in that field.

Klinger already got a PhD in Theology from the Bengals...

- all those “throw it up and pray to Jesus it’s not intercepted” passes and the “holy crap, every defensive player is coming at me all at once because the line can’t block” plays really make a man turn to God. A’La Major League, however, it doesn’t appear like Jesus can read coverages.
