Utecht visit scheduled for Thursday

Ben Utecht's agent confirmed a Cincinnati visit for Thursday. The tight end gained great exposure with one of football's greatest quarterbacks ranking fifth on the team's receptions leader. Taking advantage of Dallas Clark's injury in 2006 (missing four games), Utecht was widely used as a tight end while Clark lined up wide more frequently when Marvin Harrison went down last season. For the past two seasons, Utecht caught at least 30 passes for over 350 yards. Being on a team where your role is typically the fifth receiver, that's not bad.

Utecht's cost

How much you reckon Ben will cost us- compared to picking up say a Fred Davis, a Brad Cottam, or a Dustin Keller in the draft(the latter two being for sure there in later rounds)? I mean I like the initiative in seeking out an actual offensively functional tight end but money's money.

He can't be worth that much. He's, IMHO, still a backup tight end. If he signed with Cincinnati, he wouldn't be that every down tight end with Kelly still on the team -- who signed a decent deal. If the Bengals go after Utecht, it would be like a Matt Schobel deal. Go in during definite passing downs while Kelly blocks.
