David Pollack Retires

A long time coming, Bengals outside linebacker, David Pollack has officially retired from football. I'm sure everyone remembers that play that ended his career a distant year-and-a-half ago and the silence waiting for him to pop back up. I'm sure that we're all comfortable his life will be just fine without pads. It's a shame too. He was going to be one hellva player. At least he has his wits about him and sound reasoning to move on.

David made the right decision for himself, his family, and, ultimately, for the Bengals as well. No matter how hard he tried, I don't think there's any way he could have taken the field without one more hit to his neck on his mind- probably made all the more vivid by the whole Kevin Everett story in Buffalo. Talk about a distraction. Plus, I think every NFL player knows that that sort of injury can occur but they have to play as though they don't know it. Having David there all the time would make that harder. He's too light to play D-Line, where he'd talked about switching, and his whole game- playing fast and aggressive just wouldn't work like that. I wish him well and hope that he stays around the game, maybe as a coach or broadcaster. Thanks for your effort, David Pollack!

I am glad he made that decision. It was the right one for him and his family. Still I wonder how much his 4.5 sacks cost the team.

Cap

It looks like the Bengals will get about 500k in cap room following Pollack's retirement. I feel a little bad talking about his lost money, but it seems clear that he will do well whatever he chooses next.

I keep hearing that losing Chad would mean we'd have to cut players to make up for the cap hit but why not cut the essentially useless Chris Perry? He was a high draft pick, he must have a fairly significant salary. Anybody else we could jettison in the interest of making EGOcho Cinco disappear.
