Around SBN: Jerry Jones discusses the Pacman Jones incident Bar-right-arrows

So when will the Bengals draft picks sign?

I've been asked when the Bengals will sign any draft picks. In truth, I can't (or won't) speak for the Bengals. In the past three years, the earliest signing was Jonathan Fanene on June 30. Adam Kieft was the second earliest (July 20) while the rest signed after July 25. The Bengals 2007 draft picks all signed between July 25-28. The Bengals 2006 draft picks all signed between July 26-29.

In truth, don't worry about it. The Bengals won't begin training camp until July 28 (through August 15) and have until then to sign their players.

A further breakdown.

On July 28, 2007, the Bengals signed first round pick Leon Hall to a 13.1 million contract (five years) with $8 million in guarantees. He was the 18th pick in the 2007 NFL draft. On July 26, 2007, the Bengals signed second round pick, Kenny Irons to a four-year deal worth $5 million ($1.7 million guaranteed).

Marin White signed on July 27, 2007
Jeff Rowe signed on on July 26, 2007
Matt Toeaina signed on July 25, 2007
Dan Santucci signed on July 25, 2007
Nedu Ndukwe signed on July 26, 2007

In 2006.

Johnathan Joseph signed on July 29, 2006
Anthony Whitworth signed on July 29, 2006
Frostee Rucker signed on July 30, 2006
Domata Peko signed on July 28, 2006

Chris Henry signed on July 28, 2005
Eric Ghiaciuc signed on July 30, 2005

Rookie Pay

This topic is interesting, at least to me. I have always wondered why the rookies wait so long to sign their contracts. It is probably due to their agents, but why put it off to the very last moment? Why risk missing time in training camp and a possible roster spot?

What was also interesting this past week was the Chancelor bringing up rookie contracts. At least I am not the only who thinks that it is crazy to give someone that is unproven, that much money.
