Monday Afternoon links and notes -- Odom suffers "major injury"

Figures. Antwan Odom suffers a "major injury" to his left ankle leaving the complex on crutches with ice strapped to his foot. Odom signed a five-year deal worth $29.5 million with $11.5 million in guarantees. Odom went in for tests, but no official report has been made.

A few notes during Monday Morning's practice accumulated by the area beat writers.

  • Curnutte: "Chris Perry made another fine showing this morning as he continues his comeback from ankle and shin injuries that kept him out all of last season."
  • Marcus Maxwell lined up opposite T.J. Houshmandzadeh during 11-on-11 drills with Johnson out.
  • Jeremi Johnson was placed on the non-football injury list because of his weight.
  • No progress on the Keith Rivers front. And Lewis is frustrated. Brandon Johnson filled in for the absent Rivers.
  • Chad Johnson and DeDe Dorsey were both sidelined placed on active PUP.
  • Palmer threw a pass over safety Marvin White to Jerome Simpson.

Finally.

Finally, it’s okay to talk about football without being complete sports geeks. ;-)

First off, I heard Lapham say on Lance’s show that Odom had only a sprain- no bones or tears. For Jeremi Johnson, knowing his job was on the line, to come in too fat for football makes me think while we may see him on next season’s “The Biggest Loser”, we won’t be seeing him as a Bengal anymore.

Lance’s remarks on day one;

Brooks looked real good. Rivers is close by, just waiting on the contract. David Jones looked good. Whaley and Glathaar, working out at fullback w/Coats, both showed good hands. Andre Caldwell looked really polished and ready. Jerome Simpson has really skinny legs. Kyries Hebert looks imposing. And Mario Urrutia is really tall.

The last one sounds silly but with him, the 6-3 Maxwell, the 6-3 Purify, and the 6-2 Simpson, it may be hard to find Lil Anthony aka Antonio Chatman.

Are you ready for some football?
