Internet feed

Does anyone know of an internet feed of the game or us out-of-towners?

If...

You might be able to get the 700 wlw broadcast. Since it’s a pre-season game, there might be a chance that they don’t black it out. But I’m guessing on that.

internet

I have looked a long time for an internet source for Bengals games since I live in Browns country.

http://www.freefootballradio.com/schedule.html this site gives all the radio broadcasts

http://www.channelsurfing.net/ Gives live internet broadcast, but unfortunately no bengals game this week

Curnutte

Personnel out (plus lineup changes for tonight) — as per Curnutte.

Tailback Rudi Johnson, expected to play tonight against the Lions in the second preseason game, was a late scratch for the Bengals. Chris Perry will start in his place.

Other Bengals not playing tonight: fullback Jeremi Johnson, safety Chinedum Ndukwe (leg), cornerback Ethan Kilmer, safety Herana-Daze Jones (groin), defensive end Eric Henderson, center Dan Santucci (ankle), wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh (hamstring), tight end Matt Sherry, linebacker Rashad Jeanty (leg, knee) and defensive end Antwan Odom (foot).

In addition to Perry starting for Johnson at tailback, there are two other changes in the starting lineup: Marcus Maxwell will start at wide receiver for Houshmandzadeh, and Johnathan Fanene will start at right defensive end for Odom.

(Lions) Things to Look for

Detroit Free Press writes their five things to look for.

- Running game.
- MLB
- RT
- Return game
- Backup QBs

Eric Henderson

It would seem that Eric Henderson’s stay as a Bengals DE/LB might be going, going, gone. This will be the second pre-season game that he’ll miss. Unless the team sees more with Henderson than Rucker (and I don’t see that based on Henderson having more durability questions), I’m not sure how the Bengals can justify using a roster spot for Henderson who’s all but non-existent in games.

Centers

Now with Dan Santucci out, the Bengals may be using their “Jurassic Line” formations tonight. I would assume that it would come during the first team to give Bobbie Williams some snaps — though Kyle Cook is still the first backup center behind Eric G.

Safeties

Ethan Kilmer, though considered a CB, has been dealing with injury this entire pre-season. The competition for the backup job is tight.. and Kilmer was a decent ST player when he’s healthy. Daze-Jones, also out, is another good ST player that’s competing in a tight secondary competition.

Marcus Maxwell

With T.J. out, the WR opposite Chad Johnson was Antonio Chatman. This week, it’s Maxwell who, I thought, had a couple of T.J.-like receptions against the Packers last week.

Remember Kevin Walter?

In a 31-27 win over the Saints, the Houston Texans (and former Bengals) wide receiver, Kevin Walter caught six grabs, 100 yards and a TD.

Keith Rivers NOT starting

Smith runs for about 16

Keith Rivers (I think), missed the first tackle about five yard again. Smith (#34, for the Lions), runs for another 10 yards after Rivers miss.

Perry's first run

Double TE, Perry ran off the Whitworth and Jones and picked up six yards. The line had a good push.

Second-and-nine

No TE, 2 WR left, one WR right, I formation. Chad Johnson, running a slant route, has the ball hit his hands and drops.

Lions intercept the pass.

Shotgun, pass to Chad Johnson who jumps up the air. He juggles the ball when the pass and DB hit Chad at the same time. Kelly (Lions DB), grabbed the juggling ball and picked off the pass.

Chad fell on his elbow and hurt his shoulder. In some pain.

Lions touchdown

Kitna drops back, hits Calvin Johnson. JJ was on Johnson who ran a deep crossing pattern. Zone coverage.

Especially the coverage

Even on the pass offensive pass interference against the Lions, David Jones was about 10 yards off the receiver and they had a first down. The penalty nulled that.

Maxwell, first down

After a bad spot that set up third-and-inches, the Bengals lined up in illegal formation setting up third and 5+inches. Maxwell catches another pass from Palmer (in shotgun). Maxwell lined up right and squared in. Nice grab.

RE

The pressure came from the Bengals left side of the line. The guy that blocked it, ran outside of Levi Jones. The guy to the outside of Levi was supposed to come down but went out instead creating a natural seem for the blocker to go unblocked.

Domata Peko was the man outside of Levi that blocked out. He should have come down. By not blocking down, there was a big hole for the blocker to come threw.

Third and seven from the 20

Palmer in shotgun… Stacy Andrews guy made the sack. When the ball was snapped, Andrews pushed the DL closest to him inside (Williams took him on) and the LB blitzed and wasn’t touched by Mr. Franchise.

Blogger at CincyJungle.com

Let me amend

The blitzing LB was a delayed blitz… took a second before coming and fooled Andrews.

Blogger at CincyJungle.com

by Kirkendall on Aug 17, 2008 8:11 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Give them time

Seems like it was just a matter of knowing who is blocking whom. Andrews didn’t see the blitz coming… though the incomplete caused by a rushing defender up the middle was likely the result of Palmer forced to get rid of the ball.

From my football layman observations, communication and continuity are crucial to good O-line play, and that doesn’t develop in a few series in pre-season.
I think that E.G. should be allowed to play, and just put everyone on the same page.

The offense is just off

On nearly every pass play, Palmer is getting touched. On the third-and-15 play, the guy Levi Jones was blocked, rushed pass the edge and had a hand on Palmer as he was throwing the pass. Some guys aren’t catching the passes they should catch (mostly juggling the ball giving the Lions Defense a chance to pick off an easy pass)

Battle of the #3 WRs

Maxwell… 3 receptions, 37 yards
Chatman… 3 receptions, 26 yards
Holt… 2 receptions, 22 yards, TD

In the first half of the second pre-season game, my vote for #3 receiver goes to Maxwell.

Lions ratios... and shout to Bengals rush defense

The Lions have passed 19 times (once sacked) to nine rush attempts. In those nine rush attempts, the Lions gained 28 yards and 16 came on one play (the Rivers miss tackle). Take out that play, the Lions have rushed eight times for 12 yards.

I thought it had to do...

…with the games being pre-season and not applying since the league dishes out the money to those that pay for regular season games (like NFL’s services, or digital radio).

But 700WLW blacked it out. So there goes my theory.

On Deltha, he’s making good breaks on the ball and disrupting the passes. Two players earlier in the game, created separation on Deltha that allowed them to pick up the first down. However, since then, O’Neal is playing very, very well.

Okay, caught up.

In a nutshell…Carson got abused and had neither of his go-to guys, answering my question about “are they trying to force it to figure out a 3rd WR like last week…” Question answered, everyone on the FIELD is a 3rd WR candidate right now apparently…

Utecht has a drop and a couple of quality rec’s…

Front seven looks good on D, corners are still adjusting to being on an island (and you really can’t complain about getting abused by Calvin Johnson anyway)…

Marvin White learned his lesson about wrapping last week.

That about right? :)

by A Pragmatic Bengals Fan on Aug 17, 2008 9:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Caldwell seems like a boo-boo (though nothing has been said)

Sims was carted off, so he might be hurt for awhile. Rudi and T.J. are still “on schedule” and are anticipated playing next week. Odom should be back by opening weekend and Ndukwe could be as well, though he might miss the first game.

#3 QB

Have the Bengals already determined their depth chart at QB? This is the second game in a row that the Bengals put in Rowe as the third QB, waiting until late in the fourth quarter to give Jordan any snaps. I’m sure they know what they’re doing (yo, Kirk, are you sure???), but little Palmer has to be better than Rowe.

Though, I think I’m being tough on Rowe. He really hasn’t had much time to pass… and when he does have some time, he fires off a pass thinking he’s going to get smoked.

Pass protection. This has been a horrible display of pass protection. When Carson was in, he was hit on nearly every pass attempt. Fitzpatrick found some breathing room, but that’s partially thanks to a running game that actually worked and his ability to find yardage with his legs.

Rowe is just begging for this game to be over.

I have one obersvation about our stagnant offense

… does Brat not believe in the Play Action game, even when we run Play Action, nobody falls for it, the Safetys don’t come up… and it doesn’t open up any lanes. Infact, we look funny when we run play action — it doesn’t work and it is a major flaw… Am I wrong about that, am I missing something?

I think you're mostly right

But the Bengals failed to establish any running game.

In fact, check this out. DeDe Dorsey is the only running back to have any carries in the second half… he had 6 attempts and picked up 15 yards.

Furthermore, for the entire game, the Bengals ran 21(three by Fitzpatrick) times compared to 33 combined pass attempts.

Lets see... Rowe's passer rating

Packers… 2/8, 24 yards, INT
Lions… 2/6, 3 yards

Total… 4/14, 27 yards, INT

Which equates to a 55.2 passer rating.
