I'm sick of hearing this...
"We just have to be better, and we are. I can't give you any fancy name for it; we just have to see it. Which we will. It's nothing that can't be fixed." B. Williams on Bengals.com
Every year, for as long as I can remember now, I keep hearing how the Bengals problems aren't a big deal or are nothing that can't be fixed, yet these things never seem to get fixed. Everyone keeps bragging on this line, and all these skill guys, yet our quarterbacks were under constant pressure, our running game stunk, and our supposed elite qb had a passer rating in the 20's.
And don't get me started on the defense. When interviewed on the sidelines Joseph actually said "other than a couple of big plays we played really good." But it's those big plays that are killing you. Marvin keeps saying we've got to stop the "explosive plays", yet here we are seeing tons of them last night.
It's time to stop talking about fixing it, and get it done. Every time I hear that "this is why you play preseason games" I think back to what I watched Drew Brees and the Saints do on their first series of the preseason against the Cardinals. Boom, boom, boom, very efficient, very PROFESSIONAL, right down the field, and a TD.
There is a distinct lack of urgency and intensity on this team dating back to 2005. I still get the feeling they think they can just walk out there and win, and that just isn't the case. I'm not only uninspired by the results of the first two weeks, I'm disappointed in the seeming lack of effort and intensity. There's a certain level of nasty that an NFL team needs that appears absent from this squad.

I really like that sentence, Galaxy. It really sums up the Bengals game…or lack thereof. There really isn’t anything that the team is trying to prove. Either they feel like they can win without trying or the team is hopeless and there is no point in trying.
After re-reading this post, I started thinking back to several times in the last few seasons when the Bengals actually did step up, actually played with conviction. You guys are certainly better at coming up with examples than I am. But think back when TJ said they were better than the Ravens. They had sommething to prove. And guess what? They proved it. They’ve done the same to the Steelers. Hell, the second Bengals-Browns game last year had a little umph in it.
The problem obviously is that this motivation to actually STEP UP isn’t there the whole season. We may see it once or twice a year against a division rival. But that’s about it.

on the radio somewhere
You get Carson saying- when asked about the lack of protection and overall offensive inefficiency, it’s just the pre-season, no need to worry, blah, blah, fucking blah, while elsewhere a Mike Vrabel, he of three rings and a 16-0 regular season, snaps at a reporter after his team’s mediocre pre-season performance, “We’ve got a lot of fucking work to do.” You can say pre-season doesn’t matter, Carson, after you’ve gone out and won something on a regular basis. Until then, your prognosis isn’t worth the 1’s and 0’s it comes to me in.
