Expecting...

A good game by Rudi Johnson. This could be his final appearance as a Cincinnati Bengals player, or it could propel him as the team’s starting feature back.

Or

A horrible game and he goes on feeling sorry for himself.

Nice points

- Corey Lynch starting. The kid deserves the shot, and playing time.

- Chris Henry returning among a group of banged up WRs. T.J. Houshmandzadeh may get some PT also.

Looking forward to this game. Hopefully it’ll provide us with some optimism before the regular season kicks off. The last game against New Orleans surely didn’t.

Oh, and I hope to find some place to watch the game…

Three and out by the colts

On the first run (no yards), JJ made a good stop at the LOS. On the second, Keith Rivers did a good job slowing up the RB in the backfield while JJ finished him off. The Colts ran off the right edge on both runs.

On the third play, Gray attempted passs to WR and it was a bit low. Incomplete.

Bengals first drive

Play action fake, pass to Ben Utecht running a seam. Fitz over-threw the receiver.

Second play, Perry run

Perry, up the middle. Offensive line unable to get to the second level.

Third and 10

Fitzpatrick drops back, GOOD PROTECTION, decides to take off and run. He side stepped the first tackler and fell over for the first down.

Blogger at CincyJungle.com

First and ten

Perry takes the hand off, hits behind Whitworth. The guy that Eric G. was blocking, spun off him and made the stop.

We need

to seriously consider LeCharles Bentley. Eric just isn’t getting the job done.

Agreed.

I think you hit the key word. “Consider”.

Yeah, you’re probably right. And since no other team has signed him yet the Bengals are probably right when they haven’t either. He was just nasty a couple of years back though.

by el-insaciable on Aug 28, 2008 7:15 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Bentley is supposedly asking for a lot of money

Whereas most teams want to give him a minimum deal based on incentives — worrying about his knee. Seems fair to me.

Second and eight

Perry gets the hand off, finds a seam between Williams and Eric G. and rushes for seven yards.

Third and one

Fitz hits Holt on a quick pass, Holt gets hit just before the first down marker, but leans over for the first down.

First and 15

After a false start on Jeremi Johnson, the Bengals line up in double tight end formation, runs to the left in a stretch type run. Watson found nothing at the point of attack, hit the cut back lane to gain a yard or soo.

Blogger at CincyJungle.com

Second and 14

Four WR set, Fiz, drops back and unleashes a full body throw to Chatman over the middle (it was a square-in route by Chatman), and gains 14 yards. But still short of the first.

Blogger at CincyJungle.com

Fitz, fakes the hand off and runs out to the right. Not by design. Gets the first down.

Second and four

After a six-yard gain (pass to Reggie Kelly), Fitzpatrick throws to Chatman running a skinny post, and drops the pass. Though Paul Keels says “it looks like a good catch”. It wasn’t. It was totally dropped. LOL

Third and 4 at the IND39

Fitz in shotgun is sacked after about five seconds of waiting for a receiver to get open. Fitz decided to run up the middle, but someone got to his legs.

Fourth and five - Bengals go for it

Fitz in shotgun, throws over the middle to Holt running a slant. The reception is made and the first down converted. A flag was thrown on the play.

Perry runs left, has to stretch the run out and picks up three yards.

But I guess Brat is more comfortable being agressive when it’s only preseason…

by el-insaciable on Aug 28, 2008 7:20 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Second and seven

Perry runs left again, hits behind Levi Jones, picks up a yard. Whitworth and Eric G. pulled. The Colt that made the tackle tracked Perry down from behind.

Blogger at CincyJungle.com

by Kirkendall on Aug 28, 2008 7:21 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Third and six

Fitz in shotgun, looks for a second, and then takes off over the middle. Perry made an awful block attempt that forced Fitz to run. He picked up 16 yards and the first down.

Second and G

Chris Perry gets the hand off, hits the hole behind Bobbie Williams and goes in the for the TOUCHDOWN! The line just pushed the defensive line to their right (they were stunting that way and the o-line just pushed them down). Perry was hit, spun and stayed on his feet!

In my mind:

2005=4.1 or 4.3 YPC
2006=3.8 YPC
2007=2.9 YPC

You’ve got NO room to whine and complain, dude. If you stopped dancing in the backfield and running into your blockers, no one would be trying to get rid of you.

Also consider though, from 2005 to 2007...

Uh-oh

Keels finally noticed Rudi’s absence.

Marvin will deny

gravity, evolution, and global warming, immediately thereafter.

I can see two scenarios

1) The preseason predicts the regular season and the Bengals are 5-11.
2) Everyone on offense comes back, protection stabilizes and defense is best during Marvin Lewis era finished 10-6.

8-8.

The Mike Brown Special.

They’ll go 3-5 in the first half, then commence on the Dead Cat Bounce.

Look at it this way.

Chad, T.J., Henry, Perry, Utecht… shit that looks on paper.

Maybe it will have a heartwarming

denouement with Rudi coming in on the final snap. Just like the movie “Rudi”.

I’m picking 10 and 11- because i’m the reigning champion(read I had Tomlinson).

We had ours last night

Had one minute max pick times… with 180 picks, the draft took 32 minutes. It was great.

Third and one

Quick pass to Jerome Simpson (Paul Keels called him Henry), but Simpson just dropped the good pass.

Colts rushing

9 rushes, 5 yards

And Lorenzen has nine yards on a scramble — which is seven yards longer than any rush attempt by any Colts RB.

Nothing much on that drive

Rashad Jeanty appears at full health.

Ahmad Brooks ran down Lorenzen (make your own giggles)

David Jones makes a good open-field tackle after allowing a completion.

Whitworth says that "we haven't been worried"

Which is kind of a general theme with the players.

brooks has looked extremely motivated

kinda like I thought Rudi would tonight. Also, Henderson has looked impressive in his first action- fast, aggressive, like Brooks. Our LBs, in general, look promising, maybe even enough to make up for any D-Line deficiencies. And we haven’t even seen Odom yet.

Yea...

And that’s been the point I’ve been trying to stress this entire preseason. While we’ve looked awful, there are scenarios in which this team could actually be pretty good. Though, like most of you, I’m tired as hell about potential.
