UPDATE: PFT: Rivers agrees to a deal with Bengals -- holdout over.
UPDATE: Now, the boys at Pro Football Talk report that Rivers is heading to Cincinnati to sign a new deal.
Keith Rivers could be signed to a contract, because the "mounting pressure from both sides has generated enough heat to strike a deal as early as today, Aug. 5." Much of Tuesday was spent trying to get a deal together between Rivers' agents and the Bengals. There's still no indications that a deal for Derrick Harvey is any closer. That deal is somewhat important for the Bengals to gauge the ceiling to sign Rivers -- which appears to be a necessity fading because the team wants -- and needs -- Rivers in camp.

I read somewhere...
...was it PFT? that Rivers got extramotivated by seeing his name listed at three on the depth chart for SLB behind Brandon Johnson and Jim “Don’t Call Me Marcus” Maxwell. Nothing like tangible evidence of one’s self-destruction to inspire progress.

Does anyone remember how long Pollack’s hold out was?
As nice as the B. Johnson story sounds, we need Rivers in the starting lineup Week 1.
Hopefully there is still enough time to get Rivers up to speed.

Pollack held signed on August 17th, playing in 2 preseason games.

Pollack v. Rivers
One thing to remember is that Pollack was changing jobs. Rivers is just settling into his college position. This is more like Justin Smith’s holdout. He ended up missing just one game and having a solid year. If Rivers really is getting in now he’ll be fine.
