Ravens Postponement Affects Bengals
Even a week after the Ravens defeated Cincinnati, they are still affecting the Bengals season. The postponement of the Ravens-Texans game until November 9th, changes the Bye weeks of both those teams, as well as the Bengals. The Ravens' Bye week was originally cheduled for November 9th, but they will now use their Bye this week, as will the Texans. The Texans were supposed to have their Bye on October 26th, but since they are using it this week, they will now play the Bengals on October 26. The Bengals were supposed to have their Bye week on October 26th, but now will be playing the Texans and therefore move their Bye week to November 9th.
Got all that? There will be a quiz on this tomorrow, so study up. No big deal for the Bengals, as to me the later the Bye week the better. The Ravens and Texans end up having the first Bye weeks in the league and now have to play 15 weeks in a row starting next week. While that helps the current walking wounded, it will hurt them later in the season when they surely would love the break to rest up and get healthy. Most likely, it won't matter for all three teams, as they probably won't be fighting for a playoff spot.
However, there didn't seem to be any alternative, as the league wouldn't play the game in Baltimore, and there wasn't a suitable alternative that the Texans would agree to. At the same time, the recovery from Hurricane Ike is a heck of a lot more important that a stupid football game.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery to the gulf region.
