Marvin Lewis has gone insane!

I don't have the participation by play for week 2 against the Titans, but in week 1, they asked their 2 defensive tackles to shoulder an astounding burden. Specifically, Domata Peko played 90% of the snaps and John Thornton 87%.

By comparison, last season, Haloti Ngata turned in an iron man season with 75% of snaps for the Ravens (Gregg was 2nd at 67%). Gregg led the '06 Ravens defense at 61%. In 2000 Adams played 63.5% of the snaps and Siragusa 52% (so it's not like Marvin Lewis is not familiar with rotating linemen).

I don't honestly think it matters how bad their backups are, the Bengals will continue to get run over until they rotate more on the defensive line.

That would be lovely, if we could rotate more. But the team hasn’t played either Sims and Shirley yet due to injury (Sims) and for some unknown reason (Shirley).

In that case, you should sign another lineman

Even if you say that Cincy’s run defense is better than some give it credit for, you’re really asking for trouble without a rotation.

Depends. You don’t go out and sign another guy, that’s clearly not that good simply because he’s not employed right now, when you’re not really sure when Shirley and Sims return.

If only we had some veteran defensive lineman, who knew our schemes, who could spell Thornton and Peko, and wasn’t still learning our system like Sims Shirley and Harris….

If Sims is ready to play next week, then leaving him on the roster is fine, and just an unfortunate situation. If he isn’t ready until week 4 or 5, he should have been PUPed so that we could have kept Myers on the team.
Last year, if we would have PUPed Kilmer and Jeanty, neither played in weeks 1-6, we would have been able to have more than 2 healthy LBs after the rash of injuries.
We need better analysis of injury duration to plan who should be on the roster so that we have enough people at each position.
