Today's STARTING lineup -- and active roster
The inactives, not including the three already listed as out on the injury report, are Corey Lynch, Frank Davis and Jason Shirley.
The reason the Bengals de-activated Lynch is because the Bengals wanted to be bigger up front. Not sure about Shirley.
Frostee Rucker will start ahead of Antwan Odom.

Hell I don't know...
He’s just not that good, IMHO. But you’re probably right. They want to ease Odom’s playing time. I’d like to know why Shirley is inactive today.
With Sims and Shirley out, the Bengals will only have three active defensive tackles; Thornton, Peko and the new guy Orien Harris.
I’m sure Fanene, maybe even Rucker, might rotate in at DT, but that doesn’t seem really beneficial to me.

Sadly, that's the product of college football
With writers not really watching games, just checking out the raw stats of box scores and the score board, then voting, a bigger differential helps teams improve their spot in the rankings.

Anybody see the ESPN Outside the Lines report this morning on Jerry Jones?
The media finally criticized the Cowboys for their long history of “unsavory” signings. They even carted out Emmitt Smith (with his beard nicely dyed by Just for Men) to defend his former organization while Troy Aikman said the signing of Pacman Jones was an embarrassment. Of course, ESPN could not get through a report on criminality in the NFL without mentioning the Cincinnati Bengals (ignoring the recent spate of arrests by the Chargers and Jaguars organizations).
For a moment I thought ESPN was doing some real journalism…

So it wasn’t the one.
Handoff to McClain… gains four yards.
Two missed tackles, one in the backfield, one at the line of scrimmage.

Should have been down at the 1 yard line there.

Third and Six... Ravens punt.
Flacco drops back, fakes the throw and hands off to Ric, missed tackle by Dexter Jackson at the line of scrimmage. This allows Rice to turn the corner and nearly pick up the first down. Nice stiff arm by Rice. Ravens punt.

Perry cuts into a tackler vs. out of it.
Had he cut to his left rather than his right, that would have been a big gain.
"Ryan, Things in here don't react too well to bullets." - Marko Ramius

Palmer, in single formation, three WRs, Coats goes into motion and into the backfield.
Palmer was pressured and forced to roll out right. Picks up 5-6 yards out of bounds.
Blogger at CincyJungle.com -- SB Nation Cincinnati Bengals blog.

"Ryan, Things in here don't react too well to bullets." - Marko Ramius
Second and six
Perry lone set back, Palmer drops back and throws to the right to Utecht and HURDLES the defender. LOL!! First down baby.
Blogger at CincyJungle.com -- SB Nation Cincinnati Bengals blog.
First and ten BAL 23
Perry lone back, double tight end, gets the hand off. Runs to the right, GREAT OPEN HOLE, Bobbie Williams pulled and nailed Bart Scott. Perry picks up nine yards. Accelerated through the line.
Blogger at CincyJungle.com -- SB Nation Cincinnati Bengals blog.
Second and one
Perry gets the handoff, trips over Coats and loses about two yards. Coats got SMASHED by Ravens LB (suggs) and Perry bounced off Coats and falls down.
Blogger at CincyJungle.com -- SB Nation Cincinnati Bengals blog.
Third and Four BAL17
Shotgun in four WR set, Palmer looks over the middle and the ball is intercepted. The ball was batted into the air, double covered and Ed Reed forced the deflection and McAlister takes the interception.

Bengals should be up by at least two field goals.
Poor decisions. Bad execution. When playing a Division Opponent on the road, a veteran offense has to capitalize on its opportunities.
"Ryan, Things in here don't react too well to bullets." - Marko Ramius
Ravens linebackers
When they are blitzing Palmer and the O-line, they are coming REALLY hard into the protection. And the blockers are forced to backup where the rushers on the ends are simply speed rushing the corners.
Blogger at CincyJungle.com -- SB Nation Cincinnati Bengals blog.
First and Ten
Flacco drops back, throws to the right and hits Mason for a good 12-13 yards. JJ covering, with a lot of separation.
Blogger at CincyJungle.com -- SB Nation Cincinnati Bengals blog.
McClain trips and falls down for a limited rushing gain. That could have been sizable.
Blogger at CincyJungle.com -- SB Nation Cincinnati Bengals blog.
Second and Seven at BAL40
Flacco drops back, and pressured by Geathers to force the throw, and throws poorly to McClain. Rivers was covering, but beat badly.
Blogger at CincyJungle.com -- SB Nation Cincinnati Bengals blog.
Third and Seven
Flacco, in shotgun, throws the ball over the middle to Mason, JJ covering deep and Dhani covering underneath. First down.

Hand off to Rice, Dhani made the stop but Peko was BLOWN UP five yards deep before coming across to assist on the tackle. Only four yard pickup.

I still think our defense is all right
But our offense isn’t doing our defense ANY favors. Our offense should be scoring points, forcing Flacco to beat us.

Instead, we go three-and-out on seven possessions

Agreed
The defense still has had some issues today, but some signs of “decency”. :p
The offense on the otherhand…oh my…

Exactly.
Our defense isn’t necessarily losing us this game. Which has been the problem in the past.

Had we scored on our first two possessions -
The Ravens would have folded. That’s what you have to do with a bad team – put your foot on their throat and press.

The officials call that down by contact but don't give Chris Perry the benefit of the doubt when he fumbled in the first half.

Nice job by CBS to not give us a replay either.

In case you haven't noticed, I'm not doing plays anymore
I see no way that the Bengals win this game. While the score is close, they are children, being beat up by men.

Chad Johnson is the team's leading reciever.
With one catch (through three people have two receptions), Chad has a team high 22 yards receiving.

This team will be lucky to win three games.
Seriously. This is the most pathetic display of football I’ve seen in years.
The Bengals are wide-eyed children today.
We have no preparation by the coaches, no player stepping up to take charge, and, well, we basically suck. The Kool Aid is gone now.

I know it's bad now
But I’m going to wait a bit before counting out the Bengals. Of course they have done AWFUL today, but teams can flip around.
To start bad against a team like Baltimore, I know it’s bad.
Ravens fumble it, and JJ picks up the fumble and SCORES A TOUCHDOWN!!!

Exactly what we needed! A game changer just like that, let’s just hope the offense can somehow get it together.
Hey, as long as our offense doesn't take the field, we have a chance!!!

Wasted afternoon
My wife and I had planned to golf this afternoon, but we decided to watch the first game of the season. After all, it’s the Ravens. The Bengals should be able to beat a beat up bunch like that with a rookie quarterback starting his first game. Should have gone golfing. In fact, my wife and I decided next Sunday it’s definitely golf. I remember a former Bengals coach who famously stated there were more important things to do on a Sunday afternoon—golf to be teed up for one. I’m done with this bunch. They’re pathetic. They stink and should be ashamed of themselves—from ownership to coaching to the players. There’s not an ounce of pride in this entire organization.
