Chicago Tribune wonders if the Bears coaches failed to develop Benson.
Benson's equally unbelievable success with AFC North-leading Cincinnati put just about everyone associated with the Bears' offense and personnel under suspicion. That starts with Angelo and Smith, but also includes assistant coaches, front-office minions, receivers, tight ends, running backs, offensive linemen, and Michael McCaskey.
Benson came here with more attitude than ability and heart. Certainly more attitude than speed. The only thing worse than his attitude, in fact, was his rap sheet. He was given a job he didn't earn -- round of applause for Lovie and Jerry -- and then was given a release he deserved much earlier. Job early, release late, go figure.
And then he began averaging about 100 yards a game. And began showing speed. And became a big part of a team that has more wins than the Bears.
Which makes the question of the moment: Do they know what they're doing in Halas Hall?
Do the coaches and personnel people know what they're seeing -- on tape and in uniform, in college and in the NFL?
Do they know how to coax every last bit of good out of every last player? Do they know how to put players in the best position to succeed?

Benson will admit
He’s a more mature person and player now. Being on the street for a few months will bring any player down to earth, and that’s what I owe his success to. Granted Chicago should have found a way to motivate him, but he was young and immature.

There's probably a ...
a good chance it was ‘shame on you Benson’ and ‘shame on you Bears’. No doubt Benson bee-bopped into town pretty high on a high horse. But, too, I think the Bears had a bunch of jerks on the team, as did the Bengals a few years ago. Plus, Benson seems like the quiet, introspective type … which might not sit well with certain types of jackass players.

Jim Anderson
This guy has been here for over 20 years and turns talent into greatness. He works in the shadows but year after year he coaches our RB’s into amazing players.

i'm with you
jim anderson is the thing that sustains me as a bengals fan. those years of 4-12, those lost years of mike brown, i can always sigh and remember how much i loved this team when it was paul’s team. then i thank paul for giving us jim anderson. through the good and the bad, its rare cincy can’t rush for 1000 yards in a season.
when you wash out under jim anderson, you are done. no back he’s ever gotten rid of has done anything after jim.
