Report: Antwan Odom tears right achilles.

If it wasn't enough that Cincinnati lost in their most uninspiring game of the season, they likely lost their most productive pass rusher for the entire season. Antwan Odom, a player that had one of the best plays of the day with a blocked field goal, left the game on a cart after Matt Schaub completed a 12-yard touchdown pass to Texans' tight end Owen Daniels with a minute left in the first quarter.

Geoff Hobson writes that Odom tore his right achilles.

Lewis said a couple of hours after the Bengals' 28-17 loss to the Texans that Odom's right Achilles is torn. That usually means out for the year, a shame for a guy who had already rung up eight sacks to tie his career best.

The immediate problem now is that the Bengals are suddenly lacking depth and health on the defensive line. Domata Peko is awaiting MRI results after leaving the game on the "Texans’ third snap of the game". Combined that with Frostee Rucker dealing with an ankle injury that kept him out from Sunday's game. Tank Johnson had just returned after missing the past two games, leaving Jonathan Fanene, Pat Sims, Michael Johnson and Robert Geathers are your healthiest players on the defensive line.

That's just great

Now we’ll have almost no pass rush as was displayed after his injury in today’s game. When it hits us it really knocks us on our asses.

Maybe Michael Johnson can step in and make a difference, but I’m sure that will be a work in progress.

Buzzard's Luck

The Bengals D was predicated on the excellent play from the D line. Odom provided great rush off the edge and Peko occupied two people in the middle, allowing the LBs free reign to seek and destroy. These are huge injuries to what was becoming a stalwart unit. So, we have Jason Shirley (OG or DT, depending on the day of the week) and DE Clinton McDonald on the Practice Squad. Do the Bengals promote one of them or sign someone off the street?

My two cents – rely on MJ to come out and make some plays at DE. For DT, find a free agent. Orien Harris is still around – I believe he got cut by the Rams.

The more I think about these injuries, the more I get nervous about the upcoming stretch of Chicago, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh.

Why does this always happen to the Bengals?

Orien Harris is on the Lions.

You know you’ve hit rock bottom when you’re trolling the internet for the likes of Orien Harris.

Perseverance

This is the title of the 2009 Bengals- Perseverance. We saw it in the 4 game winning streak. We even saw it in the Denver game. The truth is that the Bengals have to start realizing their potential and come out and play a solid 4 quarters. They have not done this so far this season. I’m not going to say we got lucky for those 4 wins because it was not luck….it was remarkable playing by this team towards the end of the game.
We saw today that if you do not come out and play 4 solid quarters you will lose games no matter how good that one or two quarter(s) was. For the last 4 weeks it has been the 4th quarter that they stepped up and played their hearts out. Unfortunately the 2nd quarter was it today.
Anyways back to perseverance, we have talent on the D line without Odom. Yeah it sucks but they have to move on and plan for Chicago without him. That is why you draft guys like Michael Johnson and Rey. I have good faith in this team and I think they will ……..persevere

jason shirley and michael johnson and johnathen fanene

since johnson and fanene are already on the active roster i think it’s obvious they need to step up. Fanene has been pretty consistent when subbed in and i think with a full week’s practice in the starting rotation could be a really solid DE for us. I say michael johnson should use this time to prove that our 3rd round pick on him was very much worth it and take his opportunity to contribute.

I just brought up jason shirley because he has experience in our defense, but we seriously need another DT to add to the rotation because someone has to spell tank and pat (who’ve both played well).

it will just be about stepping up, and i think, for once, we have the personnel to do so.

but damn am i upset that odom’s season was cut short.

Sorry to hear this

Odom’s absence helped us out a lot today, but you hate to hear when someone’s season gets cut short. Best of luck to you guys for the rest of your season, and here’s hoping that Odom bounces back better than ever and sooner than expected.

I love Shirley

It looked like he was progressing really well as a OG but idk about signing him as DT.
