What I saw at The Game
I drove a not so exciting 7 hours full of construction and traffic to get to Cincinnati, and all pretty much for nothing. Odom went down, Peko was hurt, Coats looked like St Louis, turnovers, and terrible play calling(we see that every week). I mean, what was Brat thinking!!!!! We are 2nd and 2, down by eleven, with around 5 minutes to go, and we run the ball (dont get it), then qb sneak (barely get it) then call a time-out! The whole stadium was like what??? I even saw Carson Palmer come over to Marvin and he's yelling "why the hell are we running?" I thought the whole place asked the same thing. The entire team had mistakes with penalties, dropped passes, and missed assignments. I know that everybody sitting around me was ready to jump on the field and get after Coats after that drop, WOW not again. A great thing that happened sunday was that the kicking game wasnt an adventure, even made a 49 yard field goal! Hebert should've been smacked after the personal foul penalty. The game would have taken a big change if Jon Jo would've held on to that pick were he would've taken it to the house. The defense played pretty well but was unable to stop the big play, and they should get over this quickly. It wasn't your normal loss, it seemed like 95% of the stadium stayed until Palmer threw the pick and the Texans ran out the clock. It seemed like most Bengals fans were still upbeat and ready for the big game against the Bears were I expect a big game from Benson!! Benson+Tank vs the team that didnt want them, should be a good one! Im excited to see more of Michael Johnson after he blocked a FG and knocked down a pass against the Texans. We are still in first place people, lets go baby WHO DEY!!

I don’t care if he can block or not, get him in the game. If he can’t block, then make Brat use his brain to figure out a way to make him still useful as a decoy when you aren’t throwing it to him.

He Can't Block
…so either use Mathis as a blocking TE — like they have already been doing…or get Coffman in the game on passing downs.
I pretend to be no genius, but what is wrong with this idea?

mainly
that the defense would key on the fact that if he was in the game, it was an obvious pass play.

So leave him in most/all the time, and then use him as a decoy when you want to run. I cannot believe this is impossible. Difficult? Maybe. Impossible, no.
And unless we get a TE in that can catch, the guys who can catch at other positions are going to continue to be double-covered.

but
if you have 2 TEs in the game that means you’re absent a WR. would you rather have coffman or henry/caldwell? i prefer henry/caldwell. but that’s just me.

Having two tight ends in the game helps to sell the play action better and if you’ve got a TE who can catch the ball, then why not?
I agree with you though, that on obvious passing downs you’d rather have Henry/Caldwell in the game.
This is our year!

Hmm well if we use misdirection too much that’s yet another case of Brat not using variation. You have to line up in a single formation with a single set of personnel and have at least 5 plays that are completely different you can run out of that formation. And I don’t mean who goes long this time. You have to be able to fool the defense. And you can’t do that by running the same play over and over again.

I voted Coats
Coffman needs to learn how to block. Once he does that he’ll be able to block. Let’s just have Palmer not throw to Coats.

Isn't a Tight End that only blocks
just a second class Tackle?

i voted NO too.
but i do think coffman should be in on passing downs.

it seems to me he throws to coats more than anybody else
i dont have stats to back this up but it just seems that way.

Survey shows
I saw this on another post, that Ochocinco is our most targeted receiver this season.
but I can understand this. Defenses respect Coats so much little, that they constantly double him with a LB and Safety leave him wide open, so he can continue to destroy opposing defenses us with his (in)ability to hold on to the football.

I voted Yes
But thought about voting no, because I think personally Coats should be cut.
