Open Thread: Early NFL Games

While the Bengals walk into Paul Brown Stadium this Sunday for a late 4:15 start, we have a series of early games that we can chat about. Most of us will see the Pittsburgh Steelers hosting the Minnesota Vikings on Fox. That's my game. We'll have the Bengals open thread up around 2:30 PM.

Hey folks

Man, afternoon games make the day seem long.

by jsl413 on Oct 25, 2009 12:08 PM EDT reply actions

I hate KC on NFL Sundays

My 12/1 game? KC and San Diego. There is no doubleheader game.

My 3/4 game? Cowboys and Atlanta. Again, there is no doubleheader games.

I get two games today. How the hell is that even right?

RE:

They switched your game too on Wednesday. Your late Fox game was supposed to be Cincinnati.

So turns out my uncle is a big fan of the blog, Josh

When he found out I was contributing, I guess he didn’t recognize my initials, he asked my dad “oh, he’s working with Kirkendall?” Small world I guess.

Wow. That's pretty cool!

Definitely a small world.

I"m shocked

CHI@CIN is our late Fox game. No early game on Fox
MIN@PIT Is the early game if GB@CLE is blacked out.

Thank ya, sir.

In other news, in the Pittsburgh/Minnesota feed I’m watching, I can hear the host chatting in Gmail. The aural alarm GChat makes when someone messages you is quite clear.

Wayne is so underrated.

I mean, everyone knows he’s good, but I don’t think he gets the credit for being as good as he is.

by IFChris on Oct 25, 2009 1:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Not bad.

Not bad at all. We certainly aren’t in the same class as Florida, Bama and LSU, but we have a nice team in Lexington.

We've played them close in Lex the bunch of times we play them there...

…..the last few years, but they can’t finish the job. Missed XP points, missed FGs in overtime. The list goes on.

Wow

I mangled that opening sentence. We’ve played them tough in Lex the last few times we’ve played them there is what I was trying to say.

IMO shredding a team that has no pass rush and a bad (or injured, as TEN) secondary

does not count as being “back.” It just tells us that he can beat teams when he has tons of time and open receivers.

He’s still not performed THAT well consistently against good opponents

by jsl413 on Oct 25, 2009 2:08 PM EDT up reply actions

There's six afternoon games

Only two of those games are within a one possession deficit right now.

Derrick Ward

Remember we tried to bring him into Cincy? In his last five games, he hasn’t recorded more than 37 yards rushing and less than 10 rushes. He has one game he didn’t rush at all and another where he rushed one time. And he’s on a terrible team. :)

Blogger at CincyJungle.com -- SB Nation Cincinnati Bengals blog.

by Josh Kirkendall on Oct 25, 2009 2:04 PM EDT reply actions

Time for some special teams action

Maybe by the bye-week, he’ll be ready to catch passes, seeing how that’s the reason he was brought here and all.

by IFChris on Oct 25, 2009 2:10 PM EDT up reply actions

They have to do something

Clearly they’re not happy with ANY of the tight ends if they were looking to trade for Dallas’ young TE. And all reports seem to indicate it was a pretty hefty offer.

Blogger at CincyJungle.com -- SB Nation Cincinnati Bengals blog.

by Josh Kirkendall on Oct 25, 2009 2:12 PM EDT up reply actions

How can Brian Leonard be any worse?

The man can catch and he’s decent blocker as a running back. Why not experiment if the trade wire isn’t helping?

by IFChris on Oct 25, 2009 2:14 PM EDT up reply actions

You're comparing a guy that was a TE all of his life to a RB all of his life.

Meaning, another big reason is probably that Leonard has no TE experience.

Blogger at CincyJungle.com -- SB Nation Cincinnati Bengals blog.

by Josh Kirkendall on Oct 25, 2009 2:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh, I understand that, but damn, if you want to convert a defensive player to an offensive lineman

How much harder would it be to turn an already good offensive player to another position? Probably longer than the season would allow.

Sigh.

by IFChris on Oct 25, 2009 2:25 PM EDT up reply actions

RE:

And I’m sure they’re thinking about it. But they probably want Leonard worrying about being a third down back than overwhelming him with TE assignments. Would you play Leonard at RB or TE on third down?

Blogger at CincyJungle.com -- SB Nation Cincinnati Bengals blog.

by Josh Kirkendall on Oct 25, 2009 2:27 PM EDT up reply actions

They way things are going at TE

Combined with Leonard’s pass-catching ability, I think you know where I’m leaning.

;)

Maybe we should just drop the tight end from our passing attack and only use them as blockers. I can’t take much more of watching them drop and fumble games away.

I almost got a TJ jersey

But settled on Chad Johnson instead. Then two years later, he changed his name to Ochocinco.

If I were to buy a jersey now, it would probably be a throwback(Boomer, Collinsworth, or Woods).

I still have an old Boomer Logo 7 jersey. I got rid of my Justin Smith jersey a while ago.
