Andre Smith to start practicing soon; favorable reports about conditioning; game-day ready against Chicago?
Even though Andre Smith is definitely out against the Baltimore Ravens, NFL.com's Steve Wyche writes that Andre Smith is making so much progress that he could be "game-ready by Cincinnati’s Oct. 25 game against Chicago." However, he also points out that it's more likely Smith "won’t play until the Nov. 8 game against the Baltimore Ravens, following the Bengals’ bye week."
This much we've known. So we're not presented with anything new.
What is new is that Smith should be returning to practice soon and there's favorable reports that Smith's conditioning is going very well.
“His progress has been great. He’s been out of the boot, this is his fifth or sixth day, and he’s doing really well,” coach Marvin Lewis said. “He will get some on-field football work in the next 10 days to two weeks and then back into practice. He’s been getting some great conditioning work in and study in meetings. He’s worked his butt off. He traveled with us for the first time (to Cleveland last weekend) because he was no longer limited in his movements.
“His foot is healing. We’ll keep going through the process and hopefully we’ll gain one of our better players shortly.”
I can't wait to see what he can do on the field.

Hope he's lost some weight too!!
He is a little large. They said he was working his but off, but he needs to work his gut off!!! Did they say anything about him losing weight? Doesn’t he need to be under 350lb? Or is that where they want him?
He came in to camp somewhere around the 370+ range.
He needs to be under 350 and active to get his full paycheck. His playing weight last year was in the 330’s. Dude had a LONG way to go.
I think he can do it
Losing 20 lbs. in a 5 week period is not that hard. That is only about a 6% drop and even with a boot there are a lot of training methods and dietary plans that they could bring to bear. I weighed 220 and lost 15 lbs. in 5 weeks by just eating less and working out an hour or so with weights and a cycle 3 times a week. That is about a 7% weight loss. I am sure he is working on a pretty high tech regiment with a special diet and way more than an hour three times a week. Also he is 22 or 23 years old and I am 60. He needs contact conditioning and I am sure he will get plenty of that over the next 3 weeks
. We drafted him for a reason. He is good. Very good. He and Bobby Williams along with Cook will make it very difficult for any D to stop Benson from picking up yardage without stacking the line and then the passing game can get better. That is 1200 pounds of serious beef coming downhill and it will take more than a just a good effort to stop them. If things work out the way they should Benson should get 100 2 out of 3 games.

yea, he's on a diet but
usually obese people have a hard time losing weight! who’s to say that he isn’t sneaking some triple whoppers after he leaves the stadium? He did gain 40lb in less than 7 months and claims that he’s been working out during the contract sit-out.
