Cincinnati Bengals Player Pick 'Em for Week 5

Sorry again for the delay in getting it set up, but as I mentioned earlier I'm out of town this week and my schedule's very odd from Ohio's perspective.  But we're back now for week 3 of our player pick contest.  To see the full write-up of the original rules see here.  Last week's scoring results are repeated below the jump.  Here are the current score standings:

1 – Deisel2405 – 60 pts
2 – brandone – 44 pts
3 – Vman in Germany – 38 pts
4 (tie) – The Dealio – 21 pts
4 (tie) – Bengals FTW – 21 pts
5 (tie) – ZJiff30 – 20 pts
5 (tie) – Carsonorbust – 20 pts
6 (tie) – IFChris – 19 pts
6 (tie) – CincyMike56 – 19 pts
6 (tie) – Mr. X – 19 pts
6 (tie) – featherman – 19 pts

This week we face the old Browns, otherwise known as the Baltimore Ravens.  Take your pick, will this be a defensive slug-fest or the shootout of the week?

The scoring recap post from last week:

Sorry for the delay in getting this up. I’m out of town and on a weird schedule at the moment. I’ll get next week’s thread started tomorrow if I can.

OK this week we had 23 participants, so the maximum points possible for “uniqueness” was 22. Chad Ochocinco, Johnathan Joseph (x2), Leon Hall (x1), and Robert Geathers (x3) scored points for those who picked them by the rules of the game. Four people picked Chad so he’s worth 19 points to each of them, two people picked Leon Hall so 21 for each of them, one person picked Johnathan Joseph so he’s worth 22 (x2) points for them, and nobody picked Geathers.

Here is our weekly scoring only:
brandone – 44 pts (Johnathan Joseph x2)
The Dealio – 21 pts (Leon Hall)
Bengals FTW – 21 pts (Leon Hall)
CincyMike56 – 19 pts (Chad)
Vman in Germany – 19 pts (Chad)
Mr. X – 19 pts (Chad)
featherman – 19 pts (Chad)

This leaves us with a two week leader board of:

1 – Deisel2405 – 60 pts
2 – brandone – 44 pts
3 – Vman in Germany – 38 pts
4 (tie) – The Dealio – 21 pts
4 (tie) – Bengals FTW – 21 pts
5 (tie) – ZJiff30 – 20 pts
5 (tie) – Carsonorbust – 20 pts
6 (tie) – IFChris – 19 pts
6 (tie) – CincyMike56 – 19 pts
6 (tie) – Mr. X – 19 pts
6 (tie) – featherman – 19 pts

If you see any problem with the scoring above please speak up.

If you haven't played yet, here is a brief recap of the rules:

1) Pick one player (Make it easy on me, make him the title of your post.  Both first and last name please.) who is NOT officially listed as a QB, P, or PK on the roster.
2) An offensive score is worth one point per participant who did not pick your player.
3) A defensive player is worth 3/2/1 point per participant who did not pick your player based on if he 3) actually scored, 2) gained possession of the ball for the team, or 1) allowed the Bengals to gain possession by causing a fumble another player recovered.
4) You score the maximum possible points for your player but only one time.  So a defensive player who forces an opponent's fumble that Cincinnati recovers and recovers another opponent's fumble at a different point in the game is worth 2x points (not 3x cumulative).
5) Keep commentary to the bare minimum please.
6) Predictions on how they will score are not required, and if you provide one they don't net you any bonus if you are right nor do they detract if you are wrong (so long as they do actually score by game rules).
7) Try to be original yet still pick somebody you think has a realistic chance to score or cause a turnover.
8) Only ONE (1) player entry per contestant, per week is allowed.
9) Deadline for player entries each week is THIRTY (30) minutes prior to kickoff.

Sorry, no, the PK and the QB position are not allowed. Any player who is not officially listed as that position yet throws a TD pass or kicks a FG/PAT would qualify, but the actual position itself is not.

I’ll give you another shot to pick another player because I’ve been meaning to add that to the rules list at the bottom of the post and I keep forgetting… but I will fix that right now…

By qualify I mean they would count as an offensive score. So if Chad kicked another PAT and that was the only way he put points on the board during the game he would still count as an offensive score. Or if, say, Bernard Scott took a pitch-out and then rolling right he fires a pass that is caught for a TD, that would also count as him scoring offensively.

Sigh… re-read before post… re-read before post… re-read….

OK anyway, the disallowed positions are QB, P, and PK. This was in the original “long-version” rules the first week but not in the summary at the bottom of each new post.

A. Odom

Bengals will need to keep Flacco in check this week, that means sacks & shutting down McGahee. Purcell Marion Grad Mike Wright had both sacks of Flacco last week for the Patriots, Odoms turn this week!

Just FYI VMan, sacks alone don’t count, it has to cause a fumble or a safety in the process.

Leon Hall

Expect Ravnes to come out throwing after getting behind. Time for secondary to shine.

Only 16 participants this weekend, were people afraid to participate because it was the big bad Ravens? Or was it just because I got the new thread up late? Oh well, anyway, we won a major game for Coach Zimmer and that alone is worthy of note. Fortunately at least some of the people picked scored as well, so even better. But because of the low turnout the maximum points for “uniqueness” is only 15 this time.

According to the rules of the game, Andre Caldwell, Cedric Benson, Leon Hall (x2) and Johnathan Joseph (x2) all scored points for people who picked them. I would very much like to give points for Chinny on the incorrectly called play but the rules here are we go by the official NFL stats even when they are wrong. But since nobody picked him I guess it doesn’t matter anyway. Also nobody picked Andre or Big Ced, which means they don’t score any points for their followers either. I will give WHYUS some props tho as he definitely got robbed, but for a shirt-tail tackle his “no-show” guy would have put some points on the board and also saved us from another embarrassing Brad St. Louis mis-snap (of course, he might still have blown the extra point…).

So here is our weekly scoring only:
Richard L – 30 pts (Leon Hall x2)
FriarBob – 30 pts (Johnathan Joseph x2)

This leaves us with a three week leader board of:
1 – Deisel2405 – 60 pts
2 – brandone – 44 pts
3 – Vman in Germany – 38 pts
4 (tie) – Richard L – 30 pts
4 (tie) – FriarBob – 30 pts
5 (tie) – The Dealio – 21 pts
5 (tie) – Bengals FTW – 21 pts
6 (tie) – ZJiff30 – 20 pts
6 (tie) – Carsonorbust – 20 pts
7 (tie) – IFChris – 19 pts
7 (tie) – CincyMike56 – 19 pts
7 (tie) – Mr. X – 19 pts
7 (tie) – featherman – 19 pts

If you see any problem with the scoring above please speak up ASAP.
