WOW 7.5 Underdog

The Bengals are a 7.5 point underdog to the Steelers at Heinz field this Sunday. With Cincinnati already sweeping Baltimore & at 4-0 in the AFCN, you would think we would get a little bit more credit; not that we haven't been underdogs all season but wow 7.5 really??

Good news is we are perfect on the road at 3-0; on the other side the Steelers are perfect at home 4-0; this will make the match up just that much greater. Starting in 2001 the Bengals have been 3 - 5 at Heinz field time to improve that record...

It seem like every week I find myself saying "this is the most important game of the season" which every game is important but I believe if we pull off a W in Shitsburgh we will not only crush the AFCN but strengthen our changes in going late into the playoffs.

We have had some bad injuries this year but it just shows the strength of our team & depth that we can come together and pull off key wins on the road or at home.

I live in San Fran & can't wait to see the Bengals live in Oakland then flying to see them in SD; here is to a huge Sunday coming up...

Who Dey... Beat Pittsburgh!!!!

no doubt about it. I don’t think our boyz would have any other way. The lack of respect has been their fuel this year.

Lets call Vegas and have them up that favoritism.

3 yards and a pile of dust

it will go up more by sunday

because Steeler fans traditionally build the line by betting on the Black N Gold.

we were favored in Denver last night and they beat you guys so that line is ok. the post said you were 4-0 vs. the AFCN, (big deal with the win over Cleveland and Baltimore is not the same team anymore)

it will be a good game with “Shitsburgh” (very original Bungle fan) coming out on top by 10.

Baltimore will beat Pittsburgh once

They’re not the same team but they’re still dangerous. Every Raven just played horrible yesterday… and Ngata was out. You say the line is OK because the Steelers beat Denver- who beat us. But what about Chicago beating Pittsburgh and then Cinci demolishing Chicago?

Anyway, it’s kind of dumb to be arguing about a line. And did I just read the words “original” and “bungle” in the same sentence? :P

sorry wardane, we won’t win by 10. we’re going to dominate this one and win by 14-21 points. something like 31-13

sounds good to me

i had them beating SD by 18

i had them beating MINN by 17

i had them beating DEN by 13

14 sounds about right

What fuel for Zimmer to add to the FIRE!!!!

Zim will have these boys on D ready!!!! Ben is going to have to file an assault civil suit on the Bengals D after this game.

Steelers looked impressive

I hate the Steelers, but they did look impressive last night. Denver’s offense didn’t come close to scoring in the second half. So I’m not surprised by the point spread. It is better for them to be the underdog.

not as impressive as us. You guys looked good vs Baltimore but 7.5 pt line is reasonable

So we beat you guys back in September, we haven't lost a beat, and you're a 7.5 pt favorite? Child Please

I’ll feel sorry for you guys after we beat your sorry excuse for a team, again.

i agree with the stupid comments (from both sides)

but we are probably the furthest thing in the NFL right now from a “sorry excuse for a team” i’m just sayin

7 point underdog

well honest it should be 7, you beat us by 3 right… well since troy been back the defense went from averaging 22.75 pts/game to 12.75 pts/game (that includes titans game) , that is a 10 point difference, so 23-10 = 13 right, and we had scored 20 pts last game against cincy, so 20-13 = 7. I honestly hope thats not how vegas did the line but theres mathematical proof of why the line is 7 in favor of the steelers.

sorry excuse? actually, how many super bowls have yall been to? wait how many divisions have yall even won, or how many playoff appearances have yall had? have yall even had more than 10 winning seasons in your existence?

hm let’s take a look. Your 2000s record (minus this season) is 58-85-1 damn 27 games under .500, pretty sorry excuse for a team, with like 1 playoff appearance? one and done? oh yeah yall lost to us? okay

1990s record is 52-108, just pathetic. thats 56 games under .500 just downright awful. Your 1980’s and 1970’s records were average posting just a tad bit over .500, and we have a sorry excuse for a team?

you guys are a good team this year but don’t mistake yourselves for an elite team, we will show you guys what an elite team is come sunday.

Nobody is ever at full strength in the NFL. You can’t blame the absence of one guy for losing a game. We lost Odom, but it’s not like we said “Here Ray Lewis, take our lunch money and punch me a couple of times just for fun.” No, we took that game away from the ravens with or without Odom. Sorry, but there are no excuses in the NFL.

This is our year!

The only single injury I will accept that is a credible excuse for losing if you lose your star quarterback. If Pitt loses Big Ben they’re in serious trouble. If we lose Carson we’re in serious trouble. Any other player can go down and the team can move on. But without your QB you’re in some legit trouble.

by WhoDeyDerek on Nov 12, 2009 12:06 AM EST up reply actions

troy polamalu mvp

i’d say troy may just make this team better than ben does. I mean don’t get me wrong having Ben is critical, but having Troy is just as critical. with the best defensive player in the league on your defense, your defense becomes SO much better. without him we are good but with him we are the BEST. without Ben, we still have the running game and i have faith in charlie batch to do a decent job. I’d say TP = BR.

and having mendenhall in the backfield is 2x better than slow willie, mendenhall almost never loses yards on a run, he actually falls forward and has better vision and decision making. mendy is gonna put up 100+ yards on less than 23 carries.

I sure do hope you guys have gotten better since the last time we met, because this is going to be a completely different defense you guys are going up against, and a revamped offense that utilizes killer speed in wallace (who catches TD’s) along with a much better running game. BTW you still can’t run on us, check out the last couple of teams who tried

I looked at the fantasy projections..

Mendenhall is not supposed to do shit this weekend.. Peko is gonna rip his head off.

Palamalu is a great player, but so is Odom. The dude is still tops in the league in sacks and he’s been injured since Houston. Like I said. No excuses. We think we can beat you with or without Odom, so if you’re team is so great, they ought to be able to beat us with or without Palamalu.

Yes, Wallace and Mendenhall are good players, but so are Benson and Ocho, so I don’t think you have any distinct scoring advantage on us.

This is our year!

by Carsonorbust on Nov 12, 2009 9:40 AM EST up reply actions

Please note - we would have been 6-7 pt underdogs to Baltimore if the game was away.

Even with homefield advantage, we were 3 point underdogs.

Hienz field is worth 3-4 points in the eyes of Vegas.

But I think it’s hilarious that Steeler fans think they’ll walk all over us.

by Bleed-Black&Gold on Nov 10, 2009 5:49 PM EST up reply actions

I think it'll be a pretty close game.

Especially if Evan Mathis and Keith Rivers are healthy for Cincinnati, I don’t see it getting out of hand. I think these are two similar football teams that are extremely physical, like to run the ball, and are aggressive on defense. Carson’s recent discovery that he has legs has been pretty helpful in recent weeks. Both teams are playing good football, no reason to expect a blowout.

dont get over board…every time you have a decent year everyone jumps on the bengals. yea right, wait till you get destroyed this game and self destruct for the rest of the year. i can’t wait to put you classless losers in your place. And thats for using a curse word for no reason. really? shitsburgh? is that because you guys have no college education and lack any and absolute creativity with the english language? probably. I mean c’mon, what exactly does your city have in terms of good education. LOL.

Better schools than you went to

It’s called creativity and a lot of words were made from it. Shitsburg is one of them. It’ll be in the English dictionary soon, if not, already !! You should check the dictionary out since the school you went to didn’t have one. There are a lot of made up words in it. Because you don’t have any creativity, tells me you have no or very little education or class!

by WHYUS!! on Nov 10, 2009 8:00 PM EST up reply actions

So your response to "classlessness" is to rant about education?

To call fans of a rival team losers? To troll and rile up others for attention and a few laughs? That’s kind of ironic.

So, wait a minute...

You come to a Bengals blog, trash us, call us “losers”, accuse us of having no college education, and put down our use of our native tongue; then have the nerve to call us classless? Sounds like a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black, my friend.

For my part, I wish your Steelers luck this weekend. They’re going to need it.

The most annoying thing about the Steelers...

Hands down has to be all the bandwagon fans. I know that recently with the success so far this season we’ve had a few jump on board but our bandwagon base is nothing like a Pittsburgh or Dallas bandwagon. It’s ridiculous and disgusting to those fan bases (like ours) who have remained loyal to their teams through pretty rough times. I’m not saying every Pittsburgh fan is a bandwagoner. Just saying they definitely have the most.

everybody loves a winner

see NY Yankees

there are more people that have never been close to Yankee stadium (old or new) that are “diehard” Yankee fans and that’s because they live it cities that have a crap baseball team or no team at all.

the reason there are so many Steeler fans is because everybody loves a winner and in the 70’s when the Steeler’s were winning, many people instantly became fans.

i was born and raised into it but many of my friends that are Steeler fans will reiterate what i said above. some even say it is because of their uniforms – lol gotta love that Black and Gold

because I actually never saw any of you guys celebrating or showing support while your awful team was bungling away for the past few years. in fact, even when our team never went to the superbowl prior to 05 in 20 years and even when we had losing seasons or didnt really have a chance to make the SB I’ve been a huge fan as most of my friends have. scratch that, ALL OF MY FRIENDS have….i’d say most every one watches steeler games even when they suck in pittsburgh. there’s a reason why every year our games are SOLD OUT and you actually dont have sold out games.

seriously though, we have CMU and a world class medical institution at UPMC…what do you have. oh yea, nothing.

Sorry but...

You’re wrong and to be frank, you’re an idiot. The Bengals have sold out every game since 2003. Not that it matters since none of us have any ownership in our teams just setting the record straight for those less fortunate uneducated folk like yourself. Might want to do your research the next time you open that garbage can of a mouth you have.

Hate to prove you wrong again, but all of our games were sold out through our 4-12 season last year. I guess selling out games for a mediocre team doesn’t qualify as support in your eyes. Apparently you have to go troll your opponents blog and talk out of your ass about things you know nothing about to be a fan.

sorry guys...

there is just no way the Steelers drop two to Da Bungles.

We have Troy back. You won’t get pressure on Roethlisberger without Odom (not that he did shit the first time)

and our bum of a 2nd round draft pick, Limas Sweed, who dropped a gimmie TD pass last time doesn’t get thrown those kind of balls anymore. (See Mike Wallace)

And it’s at Heinz. I mean cmon guys, deep down inside do you really think ya’ll will beat us twice in one season? Be realistic. Yall have a good team, but that just won’t happen.

by WHYUS!! on Nov 11, 2009 10:52 AM EST up reply actions

I don't really disagree with you throwtoheath

I think it is a bit arrogant to assume we can beat you guys twice. I do not think that there is no way. Yea, the odds are you guys will win. We like it that way. We have only lost when we were favorites. We have won every game where we were underdogs. Baltimore has a better Oline than you guys do and we pounded Flacco with both sacks and pressure. I recognize that you have a better team than Baltimore but you also have your weaknesses. Could I get a commitment from you that IF we win Sunday that you will finally show the Bengals some respect? I think they deserve it even if we lose. Beating the Ravens twice, which you have yet to do, and you guys once (all of your excuses aside) is no small feat.

by JUNGLEJOHN on Nov 12, 2009 9:09 AM EST up reply actions

They have to beat us just to break even in the series - the pressure is on them

I see our division like this. In the second half we play 4 of the bottom 6 teams. You cannot take wins for granted here but we should win all of them. That is 10 wins. Then we have the 4 tougher games in the Steelers, Vikings, Chargers and Jets. 12-4 will get us in the post season so we need to win 2 of them. 11-5 will give us a good chance as well. The easiest are the Chargers and Jets, though we have never won in the Meadowlands. If we can’t beat them we don’t deserve the playoffs. Favre is beginning to show signs of breaking down and if last year is ant indication he will begin to show his age after another 5 games or so. I say we have a 50/50 chance against them. If we beat the Steelers we have a one game lead and really 2 as we win the tie breaker. This game is actually worth 2 games for each team. The Steelers have to win 2 out of the 3 games between the Bengals and Ravens or they lose the tie breaker. So those 3 games have the weight of 2 games. The pressure is on them, but don’t count them out.

I expect the Ravens should split with the Steelers. They have pride, a bigger rivalry than with the Bengals and they are a very good team. Even if they win on Sunday, which I think is about 50/50 as well, they should lose their game lead by the 2nd Ravens game and the tie breaker as well. It is likely that the last game of the season with the Steelers playing the Dolphins and us playing the Jets will determine who wins the division and who goes in as a wild card. This is going to be a very exciting 2nd half.

What are the signs of Favre breaking down?

by Salty on Nov 11, 2009 10:22 AM EST up reply actions

I don't see the signs yet

But last year his play in the last 6 games became increasingly less effective and there were few if any signs of it in the first half. Hey, I am a fan of Favre (on the field not necessarily off of it) as any real football fan is. Part of me hopes that he takes the team to the SB this year. But the guy is 40 and that is ancient for the game of football. He does not take a lot of punishment as he has a pretty good Oline but those hits accumulate a bit more when you age. I think the Bengals have a team which has a style of play that fits well with the Viking and I give us a reasonable chance even if he is fine but I can tell you being an older guy he is only a couple of really good hits from possible injury. I see a distinct possibility that the Vikings fade a bit going into the last quarter of the season. But, well, Favre has surprised me many times in the past. Good luck to him.

last year

he was absolutely crushed repeatedly. He tore his biceps tendon. All QBs in the NFL are a couple of really good hits from possible injury.

Favre and Cold Weather

I thought he did pretty good last year, up until December. The colder the weather was, the worse he got. I’ve not no reason to expect him to not repeat that, esp. in a Minnesota Winter.

Anyone who says...

Anyone who says there is “no way” or that either team will “definitely” win or lose is a pompous moron. Its all odds. There is a decent chance either team will win. IF the bengals win they win the division almost certainly. If the steelers win they could still lose the division IMO due to the ease of the bengals remaining schedule.

I’m rooting for the bengals as usual, but i wont be too upset with a loss since the team looks playoffs bound.

I just love how fans act like somehow their home team’s success has anything to do with the quality of their city or fans. Neither Cincinnati nor Pittsburgh is really all that much to brag about, so lets get over ourselves please.

Leave the idiotic trash talking banter for the players, who actually effect the outcome of the games!

haha, I feel like I just got slapped. But I agree with you dude, at the end of the day it’s all about odds. Right now the odds makers have Cincinnati as underdogs, but there are no inevitabilities in this league. I feel like we have a great shot at going into Pittsburgh and winning this game. We have a great team this year with a lot of pride and a lot of guts. I think our players feel the same way too.

This is our year!
