AFC North Showdown
It's one of the biggest games of the season, in one of the toughest divisions in the NFL.....The AFC North. Steelers vs Bengals, Both teams are 6-2 and the game is for the outright lead of the division, the Bengals hold the tie breaker and are looking to sweep the division. The game is in Pittsburgh at Heinz field and maybe that will be good for the Bengals without the pressure of trying to sellout the stadium, and oh! They are unbeaten on the road. For those of you that dont know, the Bengals/Steelers rivalry is one of the best (is the best to me) in the NFL!
It has been a very long time since the Bengals have had AFC North supremacy and this team is the best Bengal team i have personally ever seen. They are a close knit group with alot of chemistry and depth, this team doesnt quit, hence the team motto, "Fight Back." The Bengals have been Underdogs all season and haven't got any of the respect they deserve, even if they beat Pittsburgh they probably still wont get it. Bengals have already beat Baltimore twice and Pittsburgh once, and looking to sweep the entire divsion with the Steelers this Sunday and Cleveland in a few weeks. Cincinnati has already surpassed their win total from last season (4-11-1) and were only 8 games into 2009. My prediction is the Bengals go into Heinz field and stomp the Steelers, 31-13, and for those of you reading this your probably like yeah right, whatever guy. So if they do go in there and stomp the Steelers will you give your respect then? if not then, then when?
The Bengals have a workhorse in Cedric Benson, who is 2nd in the league in rushing (837 yards) behind the phenom Chris Johnson (959 yards). You already know they have a dynamic passing game with Chad OchoCinco, Laveranues Coles, Andre Caldwell, and gunslinger Carson Palmer. A very highly ranked defense that is very young with two spectacular cornerbacks who both have 4 picks each, and a linebacker corp that could kill, with USC alumni Keith Rivers and Rey Maualuga. Cincy lost one of their top weapons for the season when Chris Henry (Slim) broke his bones in his left forearm, but their is always somebody waiting in the wings to get their shot. Jerome Simpson, a 2nd round pick from the 2008 draft has yet to even dress out in 2009, and this may be his chance to get a shot at moving up on the depth chart. We will get to see one of the young guys, we just dont know yet who it will be, Simpson? Chase Coffman? Punt returner Quan Cosby? or one of Nebraska's best wideouts ever (statistically) in Maurice Purify? Another question..... will we see the 6th overall pick in Andre Smith step on the field vs. the Steelers? Is he ready? Or will Marvin Lewis sit him once again? Alot of questions going into Steeler Sunday, but yet, their is alot of confidence. WHO DEY!!!

You always have to take what’s printed at bengals.com with a grain of salt. Judging from what was posted today, however, it does seem like Purify will get the nod as the 4th WR. Even Simpson was saying that the two of them would “rotate”, which likely translates into Purify holding the job until / unless he plays himself out of it, and Simpson continuing to sit until he learns the offence.

I certainly hope
Keith Rivers won’t play scared out there. Ward likes to bring heavy blocks, in case you have forgotten. :)

Well, you have to be concerned about Troy too.
He might start thinking about that concussion he suffered last year and not want to run into Benson again!!! And for Rivers, he won’t worry much after Whines Hard comes across the middle! He’ll get his sooner or later, hopefully sooner, like this game!!!

Troy will be fine
I appreciate your concern though! I’m tweeting your response to Troy, letting him know that even fans of the opposition care about his well being. :)

Accuscore predicts Steelers win but...
there is an interesting stat line in their analysis
The keys to another Bengals victory is offensive balance (80+ rushing yards from Cedric Benson, 200+ yards from Carson Palmer) and no more than 1 turnover. If Cincinnati can hit these 3 statistical levels they are 56 percent favorites

rivalry?
since when was this ever a REAL rivalry?
i thought for it to be a rivalry both teams must win a considerable amount of games so that you never know who is going to come out on top?
The all-time series is 53-28 and in the last 2 decades its 30-10

small correction
the series is 48-31 incl playoff game in 05, and 28-12 in the last 2 decades (http://prod.static.bengals.clubs.nfl.com/assets/docs/alltime_results.pdf)
Did you know the Steelers have a better win % versus the Ravens than the Bengals?

pat yaself on the back
3 game difference, and 2 game difference. Still complete and utter dominance. Bengals have a good team, but theres no way this game goes 31-13 in favor of the bengals, you know how much wishful thinking that is? Somebody dug up the stats, the steelers have only lost by 10+ points twice since tomlin has been here. If you do win it most likely will be by 3 points. With the defense we have, we won’t get blown out.
As said in the post – you have to get 80 yards rushing and 200 yards passing with at most 1 turnover and its still a 56% chance of winning, that means you are still only 7% from it being a toss up. I don’t like those odds.

no blowout, but a solid win.
No turnovers in this game. Just 2 strong defenses battling it out.

Benson has been an absolute beast this year.
But I think the Steelers keep him in check for the majority of the game. Or I could be completely wrong.
One thing to note about the Steelers d is that sometimes we give up a lot of yards in spurts but we very rarely give up points. Farve had a lot of passing yards against us but their offense only scored once. Orton and his offense could only muster 3 points.
by StoneColdSteel on Nov 11, 2009 9:33 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
That's been similar to our defense.
Bend, but don’t break. In the first 5 games or so, we would give up several yards, then get a crucial turnover or make the stop for a FG. That allowed us to hang around long enough.
Recently though, they’ve really rallied around Zim (especially after his wife’s untimely passing, and they’ve stepped up their play. One thing’s for sure, the offenses for both teams have their work cut out for them.

I live in Minnesota, and everybody here thinks you guys stole a game from them with what they are calling the “phantom” tripping call on one of those last drives. and the last interception that you got on Favre was on a lucky tipped ball.
I give the steelers all the credit in the world for your defense because it’s always tough, but the end of the Minnesota game was sort of an anomaly. They should have had at least one more touchdown.

Losers always cry about "Coulda shoulda woulda"
I should know, I did it when we lost to you earlier this year. :)

Nobody knows that better than a Bengals fan, I mean, If we had a Carson Palmer for the 2005 playoffs, then we obviously would have won the Super Bowl…yeah, we all cry about our luck when we lose, but brag about our talent when we win. that’s just how it is.

Winners go home and bang the prom queen!!!

They are "lucky" they were able to get Farve
Otherwise it would be just another 7-8 win season for them.
by StoneColdSteel on Nov 12, 2009 1:06 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
whose to say they would not have just turned the ball over after one of those plays anyways? whose to say they would not have fumbled the snap or had to settle for a field goal? They are just crying because they lost, what happened is what happened, and the refs miss calls every play, there was holding many times that they did not call if anyone should be crying over calls it should be steeler fans getting mad at the lack of holding calls called on harrison. if they want to learn how to win a superbowl they should pay attention to us, because we don’t get all flustered on one call, especially on offense because you get another chance anyways. Champions play through bad calls and good calls, champions overcome adversity.
so they shouldn’t have had another touchdown because they didn’t earn it and we forced the turnovers, on the screen pass, that is just their player not catching the ball, people drop passes every game, they still had a chance to bring down fox but couldn’t.

Then don't cry about the Limas Sweed drop, same principle here.

Except Sweeds drop wasn't determined by the refs. It was his own damn fault.

Because they scored a TD on that play....
Brett to Sidney Rice. Selective memory Steeler fans?
Finally, that sounds like backdoor whining. Were you already making up potential excuses for a game you didn’t think you’d win? You guys can go ahead and start making excuses for this game too if you want. It doesn’t matter, we know we’ve got a team that can beat you and no matter, what, we’re not going to make excuses.
by The Dealio on Nov 12, 2009 12:24 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Yea they scored a TD
but whos to say that Pitt wouldn’t have came right back an scored on offense if no penalty was called? Ben had already shown that he can score quickly against the Viks with his quick strike to wallace before the half. So to say that it cost them the game is naive. We don’t know what would have happened in the remaining minutes of that game had it been played out differently, thats why its foolish to assume that the steelers would have lost.
I hope you don’t make excuses after Sunday, and if we lose – I can’t speak for others but for me it won’t change the way I see things.
by tannofsteel84 on Nov 13, 2009 10:48 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Ben can't score quickly anymore.
At least not against a solid D. Good luck against the Ravens D. Beat them 2X and then come back here.

On the replay of the interception you can see the ball getting deflected by a lineman. I’m not a Vikings fan, I’m just pointing out the facts of the game. I agree with you about the ref thing though. Bad calls happen all the time.

Uh
These two teams have not played each other more times than any other. The Lions, Packers and Bears have played each other twice as many times as the Bengals have played the Steelers. The Bengals have only been around since 1968.
But this is the biggest meeting in the rivalry history since the 2005 playoff game.
