Chris Henry
Chris Henry
I don't want to say it, but the Bengals offense will really be hurt without Chris Henry. His thigh was getting better and he was ready to return to his 2005 form. In 2005, he was either catching long passes or acting as a decoy for Chad Johnson or the H man. This presents a very hard problem for any opponent's back field. Remember that game with Pittsburgh in 2005. On the very play Carson Palmer got hurt, Chris Henry caught that long pass. He had been doing that all season. People don't realize (with the exception of Carson Palmer) what I'm saying. The Bengals no longer have a deep threat. I hope I'm wrong, but Pittsburgh's defense will stymie the Bengals this weak. But any way, go Bengals. Also, Yahoo's new Sports pages are the worst I've ever seen.

I have to disagree with you.
I think with the addition of Purify, that the deep threat is still there. He doesn’t have blazin speed but the CB’s aren’t going to play back this game, b/c of the none deep threat. That is when they will get burned. They necessarily don’t know how fast Purify is. They get burned a couple of times by Chad, Coles and Purify, they will have no choice but to switch game plans. That is when it’s tough to win, by switching game plans, that they didn’t practice on all week. Does anybody know if Simpson is dressing this game? This could also be a factor in the deep threat. My thought is, that Simpson dresses too and they undress somebody else on special teams. Purify can also play special teams.

I agree that the short week doesn't mean the Steelers D can't absorb the switch to Maurice.
If they are experienced trying to cover Slim, the only one who should surpise them is Coles. Laverneous is turning a corner for making some clutch plays recently. I expect him to find seams over the middle.
It’s actually better for Coles if the Steelers are more focused on stopping the deep ball threat, so we’ll see…

Coles had a very good game against the Steelers last time as well
He had a big catch on 4th down on the winning drive, and a couple big grabs on the drive where Benson ran for the TD as well. So he might be our dark horse.

Even with a poor performance by the Offense
Coles had the best game of the recievers corps. I don’t think teams expect him to do much because of this slow start. He seems to really be in sync with Carson right now.
Does anyone have info on how Slim is doing pst surgery?

Henry hasn't been that big a factor...
Henry is a deep threat sure, but so is OchoCinco and I am pretty confident that Caldwell can be (he’s pretty damn fast), he just hasn’t been used in that capacity. To the extent that Purify is used, he will the “new Caldwell” on third down and in the redzone and I would not be surprised if you see Caldwell streaking down the sideline at least once this game. In fact, since Caldwell hasn’t been used in that capacity, the Steelers may not be ready for it.
There is a reason why Caldwell jumped over Henry on the depth chart. He’s a better receiver.
Its a shame that Henry was hurt, but we’ll be okay.

I like Henry but...
We really do have a lot of depth and talent at wide reciever. Between Simpson, Coles, Purify, and Caldwell I’m sure we can replace both his production on the field for the rest of the season.

Plain and simple
Chris Henry = Steeler Killer
take it from a steeler fan chris was a match-up nitmare, he always seemed to catch those long 3rd down catches andeven TD’s, quite honestly wedidnt have the personnal to watch all 3 (then with chad and TJ). Not sure but thank God since 05 u (the bengals) couldnt field Palmer, Chad, Housh, and Henry seriuosly that combo was a steeler killer

Losing Chris hurts but...
Coles has stepped it up the last few weeks and Caldwell took over Chris’s #3 spot from ‘05 and he’s had more clutch plays this season than Henry has had in his entire suspension-riddled career. I love Chris but if one of our WR’s had to go down I would probably vote Henry off the island and keep Chad, Coles, and Caldwell. If he were as good as some make him out to be he would be starting. There’s no conspiracy theory in motion keeping Henry from playing.

Couldn't the same be said
for the other guys? You make it seem like they just started Chris Henry cause they owed him or something. He was the #3 receiver for a reason, the other guys weren’t good enough.

I also thought that since Simpson all of the sudden
knew that Purify was getting called up and he wasn’t quite ready YET, (yet being the key word here), then there is something up!! To suspicious here, the way it played out. Simpson knows something that all of us is not seeing. Whatever it is, it’s got me wondering. Maybe he’s not quite ready for a reason we all don’t know about. Think about what he actually said. He didn’t really appear to be worried about losing his job and ML really still wants him to stay or he would be gone.

I'm confused
What other reason could there be other than he’s just not good enough to get reps yet?

Maybe there is something coming up at the WR spot next year??
I don’t know exactly what it is, but I’ll lay money down that there’s going to be something that happens next year. When is Chad’s contract up? 2011, 2012?? Chad could be traded!!! I think they are waiting to put Simpson in, b/c they have a kid here, that is the most humbled person. They have him where they want him, to mold him in any way they want! Without complaint, under the radar! I think things are going as planned for ML now. With Purify, Caldwell and Simpson as future WR’s. I would suspect, if things play out right for the remainder of the season, they are going to pick another WR in day 1 of the draft. It’s not that Simpson is not good enough yet, it’s that the situation is not where they are wanting it to be, but staying under the radar. Remember, there was a trade offer to Dallas that nobody knows who was being traded. Might have been Chad? Jerry Jones said it would have made an immediate impact on his team and MB dumps a high contract. Just a thought!! Maybe we will see who the player was at the end of the season.

Henry will be missed but I don't think it will hurt that bad.
there is a reason he had such little playing time. I don’t know what it is exactly but I suspect he couldn’t handle going across the middle. Coles, Caldwell, and Purify have the body types and toughness to consitantly go there. Chad, Henry, and Simpson do not. that being said, we don’t have that many plays designed with two outside receivers this year. that’s why the Henry loss won’t hurt us that bad this year as apposed to the offense style we ran in 2005.

Hope he comes back next year too.
Right along with Roy Williams.
