AAAAARGH!!!!!!!!!!! I think I'm beginning to hate Cris Collinsworth.

Is anybody watching the Colts/Patriots? My GOD I can just hear the man crush love from him (Collinsworth) about the QB's for both teams. He says the Colts/Pats rivalry is the biggest in the NFL? Is he smoking crack? Did he not play for my Beloved Bengals? Did he not play against the stoolers at least a bajillion times? Too many consussions? Amnesia? What gives? I did like the way Carson bluesed on him during the interview on Inside The NFL. That was funny. Wonder why he hates the Bengals so much. He's a douchebag. Bet he wears Colts jammies.

Hey at least he picked the Bengals to win this week

I think he was the only national sports analyst that gave the Bengals the W, so he’s cool in my book for this week anyway. He does get really annoying, but you can say that about half the broadcasters in the league.

On Inside the NFL

Collinsworth picked a win but it sounded as though he really didn’t believe in his pick. It kinda had this “I gotta go Bengals” tone.

Phil Simms, Collinsworth’s co-host on the show did the game for CBS and had picked the Steelers to win and cover the 7 point spread as his “Lead Pipe Lock” of the week. I want to see Simms hear it from Collinsworth on the show this week.

i think he had that tone when picking the bengals because he always gets mocked by other analysts for being a bengals homer.

Theisman called for us to win too

Collinsworth never respected Cincinnati the town or the team. His aw shucks persona belies an ego the size of Jeremy Johnsons butt. It is the same with Esiason. Now if we win the division or , God forbid the SD, they will be gushing about how they knew it all along. Douchbags…..both of them.

In his day, was there really THAT much to respect?

I think you misread him. He’s drooling over these QBs because that’s the game for which he’s commentator. No more, no less. He’s even drooled (a little bit) over the Bengals when he was calling one of our games on NFL network a few years back. It seems that he feels his job is to hype up the game he’s watching, and to some degree he’s right. I think he goes a bit far on it at times, but that’s better than hyping another game than the one he’s calling, isn’t it? I mean, it’s got to be rather tough for the commentators of, say, games between two 1-and-X teams right now without referring to all the other much more exciting games going on elsewhere. He’s by no means a perfect commentator, but he’s not the worst either.

dude, how can you say collinsworth doesn’t respect the town when he still lives in fort thomas?

Clue, This is just my perception.....

I watched him on Inside the NFL for years and it just appeared to me that when he said the word Cincinnati or Bengals he almost spit it out. Frankly I didn’t know he still lived there. I am surprised.

i just see it as that same begrudging fandom that so many of us have; he wants the team to be successful and is glad to see it, but keeps waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Not every broadcaster should be a homer for the team they played for

Michael Irvin, Shannon Sharpe, Tom Jackson all make me sick because they suck so much ding dong of the teams they played for they are biased beyond reproach. At least Esiason remains objective. But he is a super arrogant douche! and I love it.

Yeah you're right St.E

But I’d LOVE to hear him eat crow if we win the SB!

Me too, but he has really jumped on the Bengal Band Wagon already

Hell he (Collinsworth) wore a Bengals Jersey on Inside the NFL to interview Carson two weeks ago.

I'd have to say that he's probably right.

The Colts and Patriots have played some excellent games over the past several years. The Colts and Patriots have been two of the best teams in the past decade. Several of these games have had enormous implications in playoff races or championships. 4 out of the last 10 Super Bowls have been won by these two teams. The Bengals and Steelers have a good rivalry, but when one team have been really good and the other really bad, I think that takes something out of it.

Plus, NBC marketed it as the Rivalry of the Decade, so he was probably contractually obligated to say it.

haha. That’s exactly what I was going to say. It was all NBC marketing. Almost every announcer said that this was the rivalry of the decade, including Al Michaels.

In fairness, it turned out to be one of the greatest games of the year.

I’m curious what people’s thoughts are about Bellichek’s call at the end of the game? I thought that it was stupid and it showed no confidence in his defense.

This is our year!

by Paul Cannon on Nov 16, 2009 10:45 AM EST up reply actions

Of course, I have to give the greatest game of the year to the first Bengals-Ravens game, or maybe the first Bengals-Steelers game, but the Colts-Patriots has to go right below that.

This is our year!

by Paul Cannon on Nov 16, 2009 10:47 AM EST up reply actions

I disagree, slightly.

I think it was stupid, but i think that it was arrogance more than anything else. It was Belichick saying, “Our offense can get yards whenever we want them.” Obviously, they can’t.

"If it wasn't this, it'd be something else."

I agree with your disagreement, slightly :)

Bellichick is definitely arrogant, and if the play had worked, it would have looked like a brilliant call. But the fact that he didn’t give his defense a chance to win the game shows very little confidence in them.

The Bengals game last night was the perfect contrast. We marched down the field without throwing the ball twice in the entire drive just so we could give our defense the best chance to win the game for us. It worked in perfect AFC north fashion.

This is our year!

I agree with your slight disagreement with my slight disagreement.

I do think that Belichick should have punted, but I can understand why he didn’t. He was, after all, facing the best QB in the NFL.

"If it wasn't this, it'd be something else."

the nerve of that arrogant SOB

the part I found amazing was after making the worst head coaching call I can remember, he found a way to come off arroant and superior in the post game news conference. amazing.

by steve whodey on Nov 16, 2009 12:19 PM EST up reply actions

I think is was a good call...

It was poorly executed. The Pats D was gassed and abused in the last 2 Colst possessions and Manning had his way with them. He knew that their D could not hold and if Manning got the ball again they were toast. Almost 2 minutes is more than enought ime for Manning to score on a gassed and tired D. The Pats make that play 90% of the time but the Colts defender, a backup player just made a play. He had a better chance to pick up 2 yards than stop Manning. Billichek made the right call.
