Open Thread: NFL Early Games

Happy, happy Who Dey friends. Today is the third time this year that the Bengals have played a game outside the 1PM time slot. I know, it screws up our gardening schedule, but we'll manage. The Bengals are in Oakland today and will play the Raiders. The latest news is that Cedric Benson is likely to sit while Larry Johnson will get significant playing time. We'll see.

In the meantime, there's 1pm games coming up. Here's where we talk about those. One game of interest is the Indianapolis Colts and the Baltimore Ravens. If you're in the Cincinnati area, this is the CBS game. Pittsburgh is in Kansas City and I know one of us will be able to see that game to tell us what it was like to see the Steelers fall to the Chiefs.

Anyway, bring all discussions of football -- including a mediocre college Saturday. Bring it on.

NFL blackout rules suck

First game I won’t be able to watch all season is the game being played 20 mi away in Oakland.

by swebbIL on Nov 22, 2009 12:14 PM EST reply actions

Yea

We’ve gotten lucky this year, three times, nearly not “seeling out”. We have a few weak home games coming up. Wonder if we’ll sell those out, especially if we still only have two losses.

I know the economy is bad and all

But I’m hoping the Bengals fans start showing up in droves to finish off the season for us. This team, as much as any Bengals team that I can remember, deserves some fan support.

This is our year!

by Paul Cannon on Nov 22, 2009 12:21 PM EST up reply actions

well all of those Bengal/Colts fans will still be supporting the colts. The second the Colts become rubbish (when Peyton retires) the Bengals fan base will jump up.

idk about mediocre college football. i thought it was pretty good

my buckeyes got their win, outright big 10 title, and michigan’s second straight losing season
cal-stanford went down to the wire
oregon- arizona went to 2OT
kentucky upset georgia
lsu lost to ole miss in the waning seconds
notre dame lost in 2OT to an emotional uconn team still dealing with the death of a teammate
im sure im missing other good games as well

by ritalin on Nov 22, 2009 12:28 PM EST reply actions

Ole Miss / LSU was a great game

Didn’t get to see Oregon… was forced to watch exciting Texas/Kansas game. Notre Dame losses freak me out — Brian Kelly leaving?

i sure hope not

im a loyal cincinnati fan even though i now go to OSU

Kelly

I don’t see why he’d want to go. I mean, I understand the traditions and honor of being a Notre Dame head coach. And the money is probably there. However, with UC, Kelly is likely going to a second BCS game. He’s not only undefeated, but a few upsets during championship weekend, and help from TCU, the Bearcats could (though unlikely) make the championship game.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

The Irish pockets are tons deeper than UC’s are…

RE:

If Kelly goes to Notre Dame, he’ll have that program back up and running in 2-3 years. I just hope UC does everything they can to keep him. I have to believe that the run with success in UC football only helps the institution. So throw some of that extra earned money to Kelly, I say!

Blogger at CincyJungle.com -- SB Nation Cincinnati Bengals blog.

by Josh Kirkendall on Nov 22, 2009 12:42 PM EST up reply actions

Would they match a 3 or 4 million dollar a year contract?

Cause I have a feeling the Irish alums want to win so badly, they’ll be offering something that high.

by IFChris on Nov 22, 2009 12:53 PM EST up reply actions

i think if texas loses, UC is next in line, even before tcu

a win over pitt would probably vault us over tcu in the standings. UC is only a few hundredths behind tcu.
agreed though, i hate when coaches bring a program to the top of national prominence and then leave to go to a “big name”

by ritalin on Nov 22, 2009 12:38 PM EST up reply actions

Ole Miss/LSU had such a funny ending. The worst coaching call ever! i mean, a QB spike with 1 sec left on the clock and down by 2 points….

by Sheffieldbengal on Nov 22, 2009 1:03 PM EST up reply actions

After watching that crap

I never want to hear anyone complain about Marvin Lewis’s clock management ever again.

They'll go after Meyer first, but I think he flatly turns him down.

Notre Dame cannot offer the same Florida can. They had their chance when he came out of Utah and blew it.

Next on their list has to be Kelly and they’ll offer him 3 or 4 mil a year. Who knows, they might go after Stoops too.

by IFChris on Nov 22, 2009 1:22 PM EST up reply actions

BK said he wanted to make a tradition at UC

and he didnt want the pressure of being in ND

Quinn-bashing is so popular but personally i think if he’s in the right system he’ll look great (kinda like Kyle Orton for the Broncos).

The Lions are such a strange team, they look alright against the better teams but when they have a change to win they lay an egg

The third QB is ALWAYS inactive. But he also gets to dress. And in a true emergency (or a complete blowout) he can come in and play, but the first and second string then are out for the rest of the game if he comes in before the 4th quarter.
