Just depends

If the Bengals are off to a quick lead, about 2-3 possessions ahead, then I’ll bet LJ gets a lot of work. Will he play when the game is within a score? Again, who knows. How much work did he get in practice, how quickly has he grasped the offense? Lewis said he had a good week, but my guess is that his carries will depend on the game situation.

will this game be a carbon copy of the Browns game or the Chicago game? that is the question

Inactives

 5 J. Palmer, 66 E. Mathis, 71 A. Smith, 89 J. Simpson, 80 C. Coffman, 32 C. Benson, 37 F. Vakapuna, 55 K. Rivers

what does Lewis have against rookies? did one of them steal his sandwiches or something because he just doesn’t trust them

by Sheffieldbengal on Nov 22, 2009 2:51 PM EST up reply actions

I just think it's kind of sad that two of our top draft picks are inactive this late in the season.

How much more time does Andre need? Coffman sure looks like a reach right about now.

by obc2 on Nov 22, 2009 3:00 PM EST up reply actions

It's weird. He'll play Maualuga, Rivers and Scott...

But Chase, Andre and Jerome are like leprosy carries.

by IFChris on Nov 22, 2009 2:55 PM EST up reply actions

Coffman came from a non-blocking style of college football so you can kinda understand that. But really? 1st 2nd and 3rd round picks that don’ get on the field…. maybe they were all Mike Brown mega-picks and Lewis is making a statement

RE:

I like the thinking that we just don’t need them right now.

Yeah...

If Foschi is doing a half-decent job blocking, let him and Chase play.

How bad is Coffman in the blocking game that he’s not even active against Oakland?!

by jsl413 on Nov 22, 2009 2:59 PM EST up reply actions

I just hung a Foschi auto'd 8x10 on the wall

Go get em, JP!

by obc2 on Nov 22, 2009 3:01 PM EST up reply actions

We need to spread secondaries.

Without Slim, we have less of a vertical threat. Coffman could actually occupy safeties in the middle of the field. Imagine the possibilities…

by jsl413 on Nov 22, 2009 3:02 PM EST up reply actions

welll a pass catching TE/H-back would be nice… but i agree

by Sheffieldbengal on Nov 22, 2009 2:59 PM EST up reply actions

put Jerome on KC, the Jets, Ravens, Browns etc etc and he gets playing time but i guess we shouldn’t complain too much

by Sheffieldbengal on Nov 22, 2009 2:58 PM EST up reply actions

To follow up:

Jordan Palmer – wouldn’t get PT
Andre Smith - could start for other teams
Cedric Benson – injured, would start for most teams
Evan Mathis – injured, could start for other teams
Keith Rivers – injured, would start for most teams
Chase Coffman – I think Coffman could crack the active list on other teams. Even if he can’t block, he’s gotta be better than one of the scrub TEs we play…
Jerome Simpson – Speed to burn. Would definitely crack an NFL roster somewhere
Fui Vakapuna – maybe wouldn’t get much PT as a tweener back

by jsl413 on Nov 22, 2009 2:58 PM EST up reply actions

You guys have to also consider

The Bengals game plan. If their offense is going to be a primarily rushing offense, then it makes sense to keep Chase inactive. And my point earlier in the week that the offensive line is doing just fine w/o Andre Smith remains.

Blogger at CincyJungle.com -- SB Nation Cincinnati Bengals blog.

by Josh Kirkendall on Nov 22, 2009 3:01 PM EST reply actions

makes no sense

Lap said Andre was the best blocking OT, by a wide wide margin, in last year’s draft. surely he could be on goal line or short yardage…

I think we could give the Colts a run for their money. They’ve dominated us every time we played them during the Marvin Lewis era. I think we could keep up with them this year.

I think we're just a better team this year.

I think we have a better defense, and by the time we see them in the playoffs with Andre Smith and Cedric Benson back in the mix, I think we have a better offense.
