Hello from Bleeding Green Nation

What's up Bengals fans, Eagles fan here from Bleeding Green Nation and was hoping you guys could shed some light on something that has had me confused all year. Why did we sign Stacy Andrews to a 6 year $38 million contract????

I understand the fact that Stacy and Shawn are brothers and maybe it would help motivate Shawn and get him out of his depression, but we gave Stacy a pretty big contract. The Eagles have been one of the best teams in terms of signing players and replacing talent, but this signing doesnt look so great so far. I know its his first year, and he had ACL surgery in the offseason, but it makes me scratch my head when i just saw that Stacy is on the inactive list for tonight's game and he was starting last week. So I just wanted to know if Stacy ever played at a level that would get him a 6 year 38 million dollar contract or did the Eagles front office make a big mistake?

It was not only a mistake for you to sign Stacy Andrews to that deal, but it was also a mistake for us to use the franchise tag on him the previous year.

He’s got potential. Him and Whitworth were the young guys we were hoping would turn into long-term solutions on the line. Somehow the Bengals felt it necessary to treat him like he’d already turned into an all-pro, then the Eagles did the same. He’s still a player in development, no question. Maybe he’ll pan out, but how often does a guy put in a couple years then suddenly get a top-notch contract, THEN develop into a quality starter? I think it’s pretty rare.

true

but i think something that you have to take into account is that stacy has been taking his reps and been playing at right guard instead of right tackle. I really don’t see him having any impact this year but when the offseason comes around it will be a huge help to stacy to have the entire offseason to practice and get the blocking technique down instead of rehabbing his knee the entire time. he has the potential to be an absolute force at RG … just gotta put it all together. definitely a season away though.

Not sure what you’re getting at.. guard vs tackle.. he played guard for the Bengals for a couple years before getting moved out to tackle because of injuries and age at that position. After he played half a season or so at tackle he suddenly got paid like an elite LT, when he’s really just a pretty decent young guard who might develop into a very good guard.

Stacy was a shot putter not a collage football star.

He is a good athlete for a big man, but he really hasn’t played that much football. He does have alot of potential but I wasn’t sorry the Bengals didn’t match that dough. He is no better than Roland or Collins. The thing that kills me about Andrews was the way we got him. In 2004 the Rams traded first round pick postions with us and gave us a fourth. They took Steven Jackson and two picks later we took Chris Perry. Jackson has had a long productive career and Perry is a UFL reject. The justification for that scouting blunder was the fourth rounder we used on SA. I knew that was stupid when they did it but I bought into the hype that they got a “free pic” with Stacy, a player they could teach the game to and have around for a lot of years. Andrews was very good as a back up that could play gaurd or tackle, but I never thought he was a great starter. It kinda pissed me off that they shoved Willie Anderson out the door to make room for him. Especially since Willie had another year left in the tank and we only got about half of that out of Andrews. ok, ok. that last part might not be fair. injuries happen. still got a bad taste, I guess.

personally, and don’t take this as smack because i actually like the eagles, i laughed when i saw the contract that stacy andrews signed with philly because it wasn’t the kind of mistake i expected out of that organization. i spent five years waiting for stacy andrews to show a glimpse of the potential that made him such a “great project” back when they drafted him, but all i ever saw when he played in the game was a gigantic, false-starting turnstile. he’s not even a good backup, quite frankly. the eagles definitely got hosed on that one, sorry.

i'm going to go america all over your ass!
