Report: Bengals signed Fui Vakapuna off the Arizona Cardinals' practice squad
Even though Jeremi Johnson is working through a knee injury he suffered against the Chicago Bears, the Bengals signed fullback Fui Vakapuna off the Arizona Cardinals practice squad, Geoff Hobson writes. Vakapuna will go to the team's 53-man roster, which will require the team to either release/waive a player, or move them to an open spot on the practice squad.
Along with Jeremi Johnson and Chris Pressley, Vakapuna was featured on Hard Knocks as a major storyline of whom makes the squad as the team's fullback. And Vakapuna was generally the least impressive of the three. Johnson made the squad and Pressley was moved to the team's practice squad before he was signed away to Tampa Bay's 53-man roster.

Andre Smith
It seems obvious that all uyear the Bengals were carrying more offensive linemen than they wanted because Andre Smith wasn’t ready yet. I expected them to bring back Dorsey once they cut a lineman, since his salary is garunteed, but now it seems like they want someone who will get a few tough yards until Leonard is healthy rather than the big play..
Plus that two fullback set seemed pretty wickied when they ran it against Chicago and brining back Fui gives 3 players who can line up infront of Benson.

Andre Smith?
If Smith is going to be active on game day, wouldn’t it be fun if they lined him at FB? He is supposed to be a real good runblocker too. Dreaming on.

I'm guessing Dan Skuta goes back to the practice squad or...
I’llagree with Hudepohl and say that Coats gets cut leaving Foshi to start, Coffman to get activated. This may not be too far fetched since they are using the O-linemen as TE’s in big packages.

Skuta or Nelson
It’ll be a bottom of the roster guy, someone that will clear waivers. No way they make the cut on anyone that might be picked up. I’d put money on Skuta but it could be Nelson depending on how confident they are in Roy’s arm.

he has actually been playing on special teams

right on swebbIL
no way they risk losing someone on the waiver wire. Skuta or Nelson seem possible. I was just throwin Coats name out there cuz, well, would we be risking anything cutting him???? lol

Hmmm maybe somebody is going on IR
How hurt is Jeremi? or even Brenard Scott (fui can handle carring the ball)?
David Jones hasnt seen much play time
Could be an O-linemen now that Andre Smith can play. Maybe Kooistra, he hasnt been activated much.

I think it will be Skuta. The linebackers are healthy now.He was on the practice squad. Odds are that he won’t get claimed. If he does, then maybe they would sign Marcus Freeman the LB out of Ohio State. They had him in for a look last week.

Kooistra waived
They let Kooistra go.That’s a bit of a surprise but it also says alot about the depth too. It’s on the Bengals web. They also signed Gerald Cadogan an offensive tackle out of Penn State to fill the open practice squad slot. He went undrafted this past year.

Damn!
I really thought Coats was going to be gone. All those high hopes for nothing…
by WhoDeyDerek on Nov 3, 2009 4:22 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Coats is still a very good blocker
Even though we all know he can’t catch or hold onto the ball. Maybe they should make him a permanent backup fullback after this year.
by St. Esiason on Nov 3, 2009 9:02 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Not a bad move
Our line is very deep right now and Kooistra was not a spcial teamer so no reason to keep him.
by smoormandiddy on Nov 3, 2009 4:23 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
yep it was Kooistra
Adam_Schefter Bengals terminated the contract of veteran G Scott Kooistra.

think about it. Who is the worst player? Luigs? Livings? Roland? They are all solid

Great to reminisce back to the offseason
When our main concern wasn’t even O-Line depth… but our O-Line starters!
Now that Brad St. Louis is gone what other concerns do we have other than injuries? (To J Johnson, B Scott, and Roy Williams?) Our defensive line depth looks pretty good even with Odom gone.
by WhoDeyDerek on Nov 3, 2009 6:21 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
secondary depth
secondary depth was always a concern IMO, Trent/Jones/Crocker as the nickel corner still scares me
by swebbIL on Nov 3, 2009 8:34 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Trent is getting better
Crocker is suspect at times, but Trent is so young he should improve every game.
