Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

"You can't cover me single coverage," Mason said earlier today. "You can't. It hasn't been done in 13 years, and it won't be done. But it is what it is. You try to take advantage of coverages and how they play you. But Cincinnati did a good job, a very good job, the first game at totally taking me out of the game. In the back of my mind, I just need to go into this game, work a little bit harder, find a way to -- if they choose to do that again -- find a way to get open. If not, then other people will be open."

Mason's a tool.

He doesn’t even have “getting-away-from-the-cops” speed.

i live in baltimore

and i can’t stand how many props they give their lackluster receiving corps. what a bunch of no talent hacks.

i like it that way.

let them think mason and clayton are good. hopefully they’ll never upgrade.

Hey, Mason gave props to Cincy

Give the guy a break, he didn’t diss the opponent but instead respected them. YOu did indeed shut him down but have been the only ones to do so to our offense all season. You won every phase of the game in Baltimore but we played horrible and still came close. Something tells me that if we play our best and you do as well, we’ll win this one this time. We’ll see, but if our receiving corps is so bad, how come we are near the top of the league in passing and offense and you are not?

Hey, at least I’m backing it up with stats.

One reason may be

You have Todd Heap and we have Daniel Coats.

I think we were just laughing at the notion of Mason thinking he’s some unstoppable receiver that has to be double-covered or he’ll take a game over.

Stats

No disrespect to Mason, but I don’t think he can be considered one of those elite guys based on his stats. Good player yes, un-coverable…no.

As it sits right now, Mason is 28th in the league in receiving yards.
He is 31st in receptions
He is 36th in the league in catches over 20 yards

So you have to admit it’s kind of ridiculous to claim that he can’t be covered with single coverage.

As a team, you have improved your passing game and Flacco has proven to be a good QB so I don’t mean any disrespect. It’s just that a lot of your yardage is coming from screen plays and letting rice pick up yards after the catch. Mason is barely your teams leading receiver, with only 70 more yards (421) than Ray Rice has (349), so it would be tough to argue that your receiving corps is anything but average (statistically speaking). Whether or not Mason can be covered in single coverage. I think speaks for itself.

I'll be honest

I just was looking for an excuse to link that story. I think it’s hilarious.

Palmer

7-3 against Baltimore. You can use stats all you want, but that’s the stat I’m interested in.

Also, we’ve played green bay(2 insanely good corners), baltimore, Pittsburgh, And Denver. That’s some pretty stiff passing defenses.

Mason has GOT to be one of the Top 10 Ultimate Fantasy Football Cancers of ALL TIME.

You start him and he puts up 2 catches for 18 yards. You bench him and he puts up 8 for 94 and a score. There’s no predicting when that squirrel will EVER find a nut. I started a season with him and gave up trying by Week 6.

What. A. POSER!
