Henry placed on IR after season-ending surgery; Kooistra to re-sign.
Chris Henry had season-ending surgery on his broken forearm today and was placed on Injured Reserve. Evan Mathis is considered week-to-week and Scott Kooistra is reportedly to be re-signed shortly.
Per the Bengals' official Twitter account, first reported by C. Trent Rosecrans of CNati.com. Rosecrans' Twitter account can be found here. @ctrent
Please continue to debate the merits of Chase Coffman vs. Jerome Simpson vs. Maurice Purify in the event that the discussion is once again relevant when Evan Mathis is fully healthy after getting shaken up yesterday, I don't expect Kooistra to be around for very long. This seems to be a stop-gap type of move to get the team through the next couple of weeks. I still hope to see either Purify, Simpson or Coffman soon.

This means that Purify can't be signed to 53.
Unless they cut somebody. Simpson will most probably get the nod. Just wait and see this kid in action. He has some hands and can jump. Watch for the fades routes against the smaller CB’s!!!

bet you 50 bucks we see Purify
Simpson is a bust, dont expect to see him unless another receiver goes down

How about a buck!!!
that’s what Chad likes to deal with. LOL They probably will bring Purify up to take Simpson’s spot on the bench. Until Simpson sucks it up. It’s good to have this competition at the WR spot in the middle of the season. I personally don’t care who gets they job, just as long as they bring another dimension to the table.

we know Purify is strong enough!
just ask Roy Dub

Yes I agree,
he has the size and speed, but Simpson has the hands and the vrtical leap ability. I guess it’s going to be about who is the smartest player and right now Simpson is on the team and Purify isn’t, Yet, being the key word.

Don't take too much from that drill on hard knocks
Purify was fighting for a job while Roy was just going through the motions waiting for it to be over with.

Look for Purify to play because....
he is alot better on special teams. but my choice would be throw both Jerome and Coffman to the wolfs in a 4 wr set just to see what they got against the defending Super Bowl champs defense

Bye. Chris
Really sorry to see Henry out for the season. I’ve always liked the guy. But I don’t think the replacement for his production presents too formidable an obstacle. Simpson has to step it up RIGHT NOW. If he doesn’t, I would have no problem bringing up Purify and all the things he can bring to the table. Having #9 on his side is huge, no doubt. Cosby is also intriguing because he is so polished in his receiving skills. I really like the number of options available to the Bengals in the wake of Henry’s injury. Good job with the roster.

This injury helps MB sign
Henry for cheaper than expected ,he won’t have the stats to back his arguments for a big contract. If he demands a lot of money then MB will let him test the market depending on what Simpson or Purify does. This way we get a draft pick if he leaves, Don’t we? If so, then MB is laughing all the way to the bank!!

sounds horrible
But I thought the same thing. This helps us lock in Henry for a good price. I’m starting to think like mike brown. Shoot me.

Stay still it's long range!!!
we don’t need 2 MB’s. Maybe I should get the other one!!

Only if we tender him AND there’s no CBA in place in time.

Simpson
Marvin indicated that simpson is going to get the nod so they say on bengals.com article

OTOH
This Bengals.com article says that Purify is favored.
If wide receiver Chris Henry goes on injured reserve with his fractured forearm, the leading option would be to promote Maurice Purify from the practice squad…

They, finally can’t stop talking about the D. About time!! They had just about the same conversation time as the Eagles vs Dallas game. Now that’s props!!, because we know how they love Dallas and the Eagles.

your picture of Purify is much less convincing. Based on the photos, I’d have to take Simpson. I don’t even know if he caught the ball in that picture, but it literally looks like he’s flying. You can’t buy a flying person.
This is our year!

If that the preseason game of this year
he did catch the ball. It was a spectacular TD catch too. It was called back due to a holding penalty.

sorry 9, those were the best pics i could find…
coffman had ngata (nada…nevermind), and purify only had a pic of him tackling someone after an INT….
best i could do at the time…
Purify did well at Nebraska. I think he’s probably the most physical in the downfield blocking game, and he’s pretty athletic. Ability to play Special Teams is big, too. It will be interesting to see how the Bengals would manipulate the roster to promote Maurice from the taxi squad.

Purify
I would prefer Purify if we needed a #2 or 3 receiver. But for the #4 receiver I would take Simpson. His job will be to stretch the field for Caldwell, Coles and Leonard underneath, and delay the double team on Chad. Simpson will make it a challenge for whichever corner covers him to stay behind him, which is what we asked of Henry this year. Henry only had one game with more than 40 yards or more than 2 catches. I think Simpson can match his production, if he stays healthy. If not Purify will return.

Coffman is going to sit just like Simpson did. It’s probably MB and ML. ML saying sit and learn and MB saying don’t put him in b/c of contract incentives.
by WHYUS!! on Nov 9, 2009 4:33 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
we're not from cleveland...
as many mistakes as MB has made, i’ve never seen him sit a player because of contract incentives. in fact, it’s usually the opposite. we keep players who aren’t performing far longer than we should.
by brandone on Nov 9, 2009 4:48 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Your probably right.
I was just saying that knowing how MB loves his money. There’s money involved somewhere, somehow. MB is always turning that brain of his.
by WHYUS!! on Nov 9, 2009 4:53 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
No Way.
While Mike Brown might be in charge of a lot of personnel decisions, i.e. who gets paid, I really doubt his influence is stronger than Lewis’ in the day to day. If those guys are sitting right now, its because they’re not ready to play, not because Mike Brown said so.
by The Dealio on Nov 9, 2009 6:32 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I actually beg to differ,
MB has made it known that it’s his team and he will do as he pleases. Although, ML has a lot of influence on decisions, MB has the final say. He’s been known to tell coaches to sit’em or play’em. Just like a lot of owners do. Even though, things seem a little different now, it probably is. MB probably seen Hard Knocks and the reaction it got when he tried to make a bonehead decision. That might be the difference so far. Just a thought!! He’s somewhat stepped aside a BIT.

Is Cosby an option?
Obviously the dude’s fast and all. He seemed to be a decent receiver in college, and he’s already on the 53. Does anyone think he gets a shot?
"If it wasn't this, it'd be something else."
by ZJiff30 on Nov 9, 2009 4:37 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I really don't think he is an option b/c
he is our returner. They usually don’t like to use returners as WR’s. In some cases they do though!! but with the 3 above mentioned, probably not a choice. My opinion!!
by WHYUS!! on Nov 9, 2009 4:41 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
if he's a 4 or 5 WR
then i don’t think they would mind him still returning kicks. unless you’re the patriots, usually you don’t go deeper than 3 wide more than a few times a game. but those few times are where we’re going to miss henry.
by brandone on Nov 9, 2009 4:50 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Simpson
Simpson had some awesome catches in the preseason. Granted some of them were late in the ball game during pre-season garbage time, but great hands are great hands no matter when you’re playing. I’d like to see him get a shot, but I trust whatever Palmer and Lewis decide.
by The Dealio on Nov 9, 2009 6:34 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Who should it be?
PURIFY!!! BIGGER, more EXPLOSIVE…. RAW Speed!!! Cornhusker record setter!!
SIMPSON.. More familiar with the playbook?
Leave Chase at tight-end and don’t confuse things.. We already tried to make him a Wes welker type of reciever… not.. Leave COATS (Can’t hold the ball) on the bench and keep Chase at tight-end along wth Foschi (That guy’s a beast!!)

did you see Foschi plow that linebacker Sunday??
DAMN!!!! it may have been a DB but i think it was a LB

Good grief - another season ending injury
Although Henry kind of only hauls in one pass per game, he is still going to be missed because his speed and potential big play keeps the backs honest. Whoever they use, Simpson or Purify will just not be quite the same.
