Is there too much attention being paid to Special Teams??
We all know special teams are a vital part of the game. It does seem like the Bengals are making a lot of active roster spot calls each week based on special teams alone. At what point do the Bengals put their passing game in front of their special teams needs and activate more then just Purify . There seems to be a lot of folks activated each week who only bring special teams value.
Skuta- 3 tackles all year
Purify--Zero catches 3 games
Quasby--Zero catches
Below is a list of the top 8 punt returners in the league.Cosby is the only specialist who offers no other value
Any thoughts of how to structure the active roster to activate more offensive options?

Ask pittsburgh
How Important special teams are. Or just look back at the first Cleveland game. Cribbage tore us up. This one? Purify had him on lock.

Quasby
Best nickname I’ve heard for someone on the team. Hope it sticks

The fact that he’s ranked 3rd is good enough in my book to afford him a spot on the team. Does anyone remember Kiewan Ratliff?
I suppose a case could be made for Purify and/or Skuta to see less time, though depth is always an issue. This feels like another plug for a Chase Coffman sighting!

I think the issue is...
…it isn’t clear that activating Coffman or Simpson will significantly help the passing game to offset the loss we would take on special teams. Additionally, I suspect that there is an unwritten rule that non-starters and younger players have to be able to contribute on special teams if they expect to be active.
Honestly, I don’t know Quasby’s receiving skills, but i’d love to see him burning down the sideline on a fly pattern just to see what he could do.

Cosby has been a good return man...
but can Simpson Return Punts and catch a ball? I mean, how far away can he be from being ready?

Simpson isn't an NFL player
He isn’t tough enough to return punts, block in the running game, or keep his eye on a ball when he hears footsteps. Dude is a bust. Apparently they hit a little harder then they did when he played at Coastal Carolina.

and you know this based on the zero chances he has had this year?? You could fill a hall of fame roster on guys who came out and had learning curves their first year.. Im sorry i dont buy the if they were good enough they would be playing argument. We are not talking about a stellar track record in evaluting talent by the Benglas staff.. I think its becuse he cant block or be a special teams player like purify..The fact is purify has done NOTHING at WR and either has Quasby. enough already lets get some guys that can go downfield

I can read between the lines
The day Henry got hurt Carson was asked what was going to happen. He immediately said “Purify would have to step up”. Purify (unlike Simpson) was not even on the 53 man roster. The notion of Simpson being a viable option didn’t even cross Palmer’s mind. Later in the week when Carson had a chance to turn on his Politically Correct Filter, he did mention Simpson…but that was ‘say the right thing BS’. Besides. the rumbling is the guy is soft.

correct-soft in the run blocking dept.
His only hope for activation is if they feel he can return kickoffs. Maybe this week?

Purify has zero catches in theree games 2 of them being against the Browns and Raiders..Let simpson/ coffman prove they arte that bad or just turn the entire WR core into special teams gurus.. Palmer wants his brother activated each game as well.. i dont think we need that either
Puirfy—zero catches
Quasby-zero catches

If you activate Simpson and Coffman,
then you have to deactivate Purify and probably Foschi. Your special teams will suffer from that, as will your pass protection which is already bad.
Simpson and Coffman have to prove themselves in practice before they sniff game time.

That's what I'm talking about..
or put Cosby in on returns too. Maybe this will happen this week. Who’s returning the kicks this week? Anybody know?
