Open Thread: Bengals shutout of the NFL Pro Bowl
Let's see if this makes sense. Everyone votes for their selection in this year's Pro Bowl. Like Cincinnati having to wait for a pointless season finale where they're not likely to play their starting unit before getting a Primetime game, the Bengals are now shutout of the Pro Bowl. What's that? An AFC North champion squad that has no Pro Bowl selections, whereas the second place team Baltimore, the team that the Bengals beat twice this year, sport five players? No Cedric Benson. No Johnathan Joseph. No Leon Hall. No one.
In the end, it doesn't matter. The Bengals will be playing the week after, so they couldn't participate in the show they call the Pro Bowl, which is the biggest farce in all-star games in professional sports.

Randy Moss
Leads the NFL with 13 touchdown receptions. NOT in the Pro Bowl. This is retarded. Seriously.

This is absolutely ridiculous.
Preposterous even.
How Cedric Benson can not receive a Pro Bowl vote after leading the AFC running backs even after he got hurt…then coming back and popping off two more 100 yard games…
Stupid. Just stupid. I don’t even know what to say.
Hall and JJ
Hall and JJ losing out is terrible.
I tweeted this, but I’ll post here too.
Leon Hall and Johnathan Joseph are in the top-five with six interceptions. More than Bailey and more than Asomugha — the starting CBs.
Leon Hall (30) and Johnathan Joseph (26) are third and fourth respectively with most passes defensed in the NFL. Not in the Pro Bowl.

The what Bowl?
Isn’t that one of those new year’s college things? Of course the Bengals won’t be playing in that one. They’re going to the Super Bowl!
Whatever! Pro Bowl Schmo Bowl
That’s such a joke. Of course JJ, Hall, and Benson should be in, but what about our O-line. They deserve some props as well. I just hope this gives them more motivation to kick ass in the playoffs.
As I was just saying to @Cincyjungle on twitter...
Speaks volumes about our boys. Bengals won the AFC north with no-one in the all-star game? That means they won it with EVERYONE doing their part.
(Except chase coffman.)

not sure what pisses me off more
getting snubbed or seeing DeSean Jackson’s (3 picks behind Jerome Simpson) first of many. Great job trained dart throwing monkeys…er, I mean Bengals scouting department.
Chinedum Ndukwe. Bernard Scott. T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Kyle Cook. Tom Nelson. Quan Cosby. Morgan Trent.
All drafted in the sixth round, seventh round or not drafted at all and all are (or were) contributing members of the Bengals and damn fine football players.
They appear to have whiffed on Simpson HARD in passing up Jackson for him, but our scouting department isn’t as bad as folk make it out to be.

nuts
The bengals have the smallest scouting department in the NFL. I can’t find the numbers but memory says it is about seven or eight. Four of those have the last name Brown or Blackburn. Most teams have between 10 to 14 real full time scouts.
I am not going to couter your list of decent players with the never ending stupid, wasted draft picks. That list is too long and too depressing.
Besides, at least 3 names on that list are a dime a dozen type players and will probably be out of the league in 3 years.

I'm not going to argue that the Bengals' one full-time scout and his three part-time assistants could definitely be better with some actual, real help.
What I’m saying is that of late (of late being the operative word) they’ve been doing fairly well. Look, every team has hits and misses and taking Jerome Simpson over DeSean Jackson was a big, big, major, epic whiff. A mistake of what has proved until now to be of epic proportions.
I’m not arguing the fact that the Bengals need a better scouting department. Not even a little. I’m just saying that “dart throwing monkeys” is a bit harsh. The staff they do have has been making very good late-round choices for a long time and I think that’s more indicative of their body of work than any early-round successes or failures they’ve had. The draft is a crapshoot at best and there is no such thing as a draft pick which will undoubtably land in the Hall of Fame.

the bengals not picking desean jackson was chad’s fault, not the scouting department’s. if chad hadn’t been going off on his “i hate everything about cincinnati” offseason rant at the time, you can bet desean jackson would’ve been a bengal. as it stood, the team clearly didn’t want to have to deal with a new loudmouth receiver when the one they had was clearly going to be a bad influence on him.

Begals
This is no surprise. Look at ESPN on any given day. How much coverage do the Bengals get? Cowboys, Redskins, New york, Eagles, they get all the attention. That’s just the way it is. The Large Market teams get all the coverage. Go Bengals.
thank you, pro bowl voters, for giving the bengals’ coaches further evidence of their “nobody wants/respects you” statement that has been made to the team all season.
and while it’s clearly a travesty that neither leon nor j-joe made the team, it should also be noted that dhani jones has played infinitely better than ray lewis this season, and i’d go so far as to say he’s been better than demeco ryans as well.
i'm going to go america all over your ass!
true
Ray Lewis is slowing down. He has to gamble and shoot his gaps early. When he guesses right it is usually a big play. ESPN shows the replay over and over. When he is wrong no one calls him out. He is still great but not a probowler. Must be nice to have name recognition…just ask Champ Bailey.

Fuck ESPN
And all sports annilists. Somehow green bay is ranked higher then the bengals yet we beat them. So is Dallas who sucks. Rodney Harrison actually had the nerve to say the bengals are a scam. Fuck him he is a retarded piece of shit along with Peter king. No one watches the pro bowl anyway but the sad fact that none of our players got voted in is absolutely insane. Ray Lewis is old and crap and should not be in the pro bowl. And how in gods name is benson not in the pro bowl?

I AGREE WITH DIESEL2405 100%!
FU%# ESPN, FU%# Rodney Harrison(loudmouth piece of garbage), and FU%# all of the SO CALLED voters of the pro bowl! Maybe this snub will give the Bengals extra incentive to open a can of " WHOOP ASS" in the playoffs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
