Lions fan here...
Hey, I'm a Lions fan, as you can tell by the subject. Me and some friends are driving down from West Michigan to attend the game on Sunday (the matchup looked better during the offseason needless to say, ha) and are staying at the Spring Hill Marriot in midtown, and I had a couple of question...
What are the best sports bars/general bars in the area (preferably walking/cab distance)?
Are there any shuttles from the hotel to the game or within the area?
Any other info we should know about downtown would be appreciated, we'll be there Saturday morning through Sunday night, so let me know.
Anyways, thanks in advance and good luck on Sunday, congrats on the great season so far, but for my sake, I'm hoping theres a speed bump come Sunday.

Lions fans...man I remember that kinda pain
Call a cab. Have plenty of cash, gold jewery and such. Just ask your driver to drop you off Over The Rhine, it will feel like Detroit in no time.
while otr is on the way up (and once the breweries all get back in there again, it’ll be alive and kicking), it’s still pretty sketchy; for instance, the gateway district is pretty nice, but half a block behind it is washington park, where all the bums stay. that being said, i don’t believe whatever it was that claimed otr is the most dangerous place in the country; if that were the case, i doubt that the midpoint folks would’ve put so much of the festival there.

Whatever you do, don’t try to get dropped off — or worse yet actually park — anywhere within five miles of the stadium. I’d just get a good map and then drive yourself, park on the edge of downtown somewhere where the prices are under $10 for parking, then walk the rest of the way.
There probably are bus options available tho. Try http://www.sorta.com/schedules.html or http://tripplanner.go-metro.com:8082/hiwire
bus is the best option. $1.50 each way, and it drops you off in downtown; you’ll only have a few blocks to walk to the stadium. it’s how my ol’ lady and i went to the games the last few seasons. if you’re staying in the spring hill, you’ll be right at a bus stop; you’re also right next to mt. adams, which has a wide selection of regular bars. can’t really make a statement about sports bars.

Plenty of Parking
There is plenty of parking on the edge of downtown and close to GABP you can probably park for under $10. I have no idea about shuttling, I would just pay the $10 at the most ot park within a 1/2 mile walk. Good Luck to ya but I shan’t root for ya!

what kind of bars are you into?
younger scene in mount. adams. alive one, longworth’s, pavilion… everything is real close together. you can walk here from your hotel.
mount. lookout is fun, gets pretty crowded – million’s, mount lookout tavern. you’ll have to cab it.
the artsy-kids and hipsters hang out in north side. northside tavern is a staple. there’s a new bar called mayday that my friends said is cool… haven’t been there yet. good beers on tap in northside, also a lot of pompous elitists. this is going to be a longer trek for you.
mulligan’s in hyde park is a cool irish sports bar. pretty close. tell your cabbie to take 71.
downtown – Tina’s is cool. good food. it gets pretty crowded on game day. short cab ride
the smokers go across the river to northern kentucky—indoor smoking is banned in cincinnati—to newport on the levee or mainstrasse. short cab ride – about 10 mins.
brother’s is your typical college big crowds bar.
haufbrauhaus is a big german bar with huge beer mugs. you can stand on tables there.
jerzee’s is a cool sports bar in newport.
mainstrasse has a lot of cool jazz clubs and dive bars. pretty quaint and low key.
you can cab it to all those places for about 10 bucks.
awesome...
thanks for all the advice guys…and I’m not from Detroit…although it’s really not as bad as people make it out to be.
I'm in Western Michigan too
Grand Rapids to be exact. What area are you from? Cinci is nothing like Detroit haha
