Maualuga goes on Injured Reserve; Bengals bring TE Darius Hill back from the practice squad

As much as you like Rey Maualuga's spirit for not wanting to have his season ended with a fractured ankle, the fact is, Rey Maualuga's season is over, per a recent Cincinnati Bengals tweet. Maualuga's season was a very encouraging one for the rookie who figures to be a big foundation piece with Keith Rivers in the very near future.

The Bengals called up tight end Darius Hill from the practice squad and signed tight end Carson Palmer Butler to replace him on the practice squad. Hill was one of three undrafted free agents the Bengals signed after rookie minicamp. His career at Ball State:

Hill has to be

better than stone-hands Coats and stone-hands Foschi!

sad news about Rey Rey

He’s always open. He catches a lot of balls. He’s un-guardable, no matter how old he is

Great find

On the Hill video. He looks really promising. Of course, those were all MAC defenses “covering” him. They seemed to just lose track of him on a lot of his receptions. Let’s hope he can get contested catches, and play like a big tight end on tough short passes.

If he can, then let’s put him out there in the Jets game and try him out. If he even does halfway decent against that defense he oughtta be able to help us in the playoffs too.

nobody bothers to cover our TE’s anyways so he should be a perfect fit.

Great #'s

This kid had great #‘s in college, looked up his stats and really good against Neb, Purdue, Rutgers, and other big time schools…..should give carson the target he’s been needing. I wish i had a 6’7 TE with speed, hands and good route running ability to throw too. Coats adn Foschi aren’t bad TE’s just can’t catch or run very well.

May end up being a steal

and with a few catches on Sunday night … who knows how soon.

Good video.......

Two questions…….can he block and get yards after the catch….as the vid showed no protection skill or an ability to break tackles/make people miss? That said, can we do worse at our least talented position?

He wouldn’t have been activated if he couldn’t do those things. We might have seen Coffman move up this year if that had been the case.

That is, We might have seen Coffman if all we wanted was a catching TE.

He was injured.

He looks more like a slot receiver to me.

He looks more like TJ than Dave Casper. Not enough body weight to block LBs IMO. BU hey we can’t do much worse than we have at TE. NY would be a good place to find out.

agreed. We might as well put Hill in the game to see what he can do for us. The same goes for all of our backups. I want to see What JT O’Sullivan and Simpson can do for us. Plus, it would be good to get LJ some touches and maybe even a few for B. Scott.

This is our year!
