Brandon Johnson or Keith Rivers
When is keith rivers gonna make a play? sure he is solid but he doesn't even have a sack yet. Brandon Johnson on the other hand shows up all over the field whenever he is in the game. I still believe in rivers but he needs to be more aggressive. Whenever he blitzes he seems to slow down before taking on his blocker whereas brandon johnson tries to run through them. Any thoughts? Who Dey!

yeah, I've noticed that
I hate to say it but he was more aggressive his first 8 games last year before that cheap shot from The Coward Hines Ward. Sometimes a boxer is never the same after getting KO’ed. I hope I’m wrong about this but I have been quietly observing that all year.

The next two games are BIG
I expect Zimmer to have the Defense ready and motivated to dominate the game, and Rivers is having a solid year, but yeah, he’s sackless. Time to get the motor running. I would expect various packages to be rolled out, and both Rivers and Johnson will get some series to keep the O guessing and keep everyone fresh.
i don’t think rivers gets sent on a lot of pass blitzes. he’s usually used more in coverage on those plays while dhani goes after the quarterback. i don’t think it’s symptomatic of the player, just how he’s used.
i'm going to go america all over your ass!
Yeah the sack stat for Rivers is pointless. He's solid all the way around.
Plus this is only his true first full year, he needs time.
If you don't live like you wanna, you live like you shouldn't
Johnson is a beast
When he is on the field, they are calling his name on every play. I like Rivers, and he plays solid D, but he just doesn’t seem explosive.
Heh
You know I was going to argue this, but I just stared at the computer screen. I had nothing. I don’t know who is better (in terms of talent and all that jazz), but Johnson is playing better… by far.

I say put Johnson at strong
keep Rivers at will, and rotate out Maualuga and Jones at middle

Jones had a really good game last week, we need him in the game as much as we can

hey, that's a great idea
lets take out our defensive QB and put in our rookie! Brett Favre won’t expose that.. nah!

Hmmm did I say Bench him?
“Rotate” as Jones gets tired because Maualuga has been less than spectacular. you guys are talking about benching Rivers!!!

who is talking about benching Rivers?
I like our rotation just the way it is, apparently so does Zimmer. Why would we rotate our MLB, especially when his replacement would be a rookie. Sounds disastrous.. Next year maybe when he has the offseason to adjust back to playing in the middle, then we could even play with bringing in Jeanty on running downs.. now thats sexy!

Johnson had played the Best of all our LB's this season
But this website that looks at film and breaks it downs say Keith Rivers has been the 4th best OLB in the NFL this season
"Ghiaciuc's play was a distraction"
interesting
actually he is ranked the 7th best overall 4-3D OLB. That is pretty far from the 4th OLB, but it is better than I would have thought. The real shocker is the snaps. Somehow Johnson has 430 (34 tackles) this year and Rivers has only 262 (32 tackles). heck, Rey only has 350 (32 tackles)Definitly shows me Rivers has been more productive with less and Johnson is a versitle backup. I still say stats aside, Keith looked more dominate last year.

He was #4 last week
Maybe some players have moved ahead while Rivers was injured
And 7th is still good. there are 64 Starting OLB in the league and at least 30 Nickle LBs like Brandon Johnson. So being 7th out of 90 OLB that play is pretty good

I think those rankings are somewhat misleading. Brian Leonard is ranked #18 and Ced is at #35? I mean I know Ced missed a couple of games but still. Doesn’t do justice to the quality and impact that a player has on it’s team.
If you don't live like you wanna, you live like you shouldn't
Peko at #61? I don't think so. It's a cool site though.
If you don't live like you wanna, you live like you shouldn't
You can teach long!
B Johnson , M Johnson and Fanene have all been beasts and they all are 6’ 4" or taller.. I would love to see a way to get Johnson in there more. i like the idea above about rotating Rey and Dhani and keeping Rivers and Johnson both in
yea because he never gets tired right?

Keep him in on offense as well,
he can block and be our speed threat.
also point man on ST
I guess a winning record brings out freaks.
Like I told first Pick

Yeah keep Dhani in
I love the way Brandon Johnson plays. He’s a nasty mean dude on the field. The way he played in the Pittsburgh game had me thinking that our defense was the defense Pittsburgh has had all of these years recently… Mean, tough, in your face. Rivers is solid on D but I would love to see him be a little more aggressive and show some toughness. If not, we need to find a way to get Brandon Johnson in there more. Dhani has been playing great. To put a rookie in at any time for Dhani would be a mistake.
...
Rey-Rey should be more productive when he’s moved to his natural position, MLB. Dhani is getting up there in years so I don’t know what’s gonna happen there in the near future.
As far as River goes, he’s been solid, no doubt. He might’ve looked better last year but he’s still solid, he needs more time I think. Johnson is a good backup line backer, and I say back up, because I think our starting trio deserves to be starting over anybody else.
If you don't live like you wanna, you live like you shouldn't
Is there any way to keep Johnson for next year?
I hope they can …. but I am guessing he is going to want to be a starter. I don’t see how he is a starter on this team. Rivers was drafted to be WILL.

Well
I think there are two ways to get him back:
1) If there isn’t a new CBA, I believe he is a restricted free agent rather than unrestricted, so we can match any offer.
2) If there is a new CBA, we can just sign him like any free agent. I’m not sure either if he wants to go be a starter somewhere else or not, which is probably what it all boils down to. He does see a lot of time on the field in his curren situation.

The linebacker corps we have right now and how they are used is working very well.
I would not change a thing.
They are all adding value. Some are better stopping the run, like Rivers and Ray. Some are better at blitzing like Dhani and Brandon. They get the job done as well as any LB group in the NFL. I can’t believe any of them would complain about time on the field or who “starts”.
