Ask a Norseman

Well howdy all you Bengal fans, I'm here from the great white north hoping to answer any and all questions about anything and everything dealing with this upcoming game and the Minnesota Vikings!  This should be a great game especially since these two teams very likely could meet each other again early next year!

So ask your questions, I may not know everything about the vikings, but what I don't know couldn't filll a thimble ;)

What happened to All day Sunday Night?

he was shutdown!! thats a key to us having a chance and double teaming Jared Allen looked like it worked well. I know your whole front four are Pro Bowlers. but my question is your cornerback ok? Whats his name Winfield is he ok?

Don't know what happened to AD

But out O-Line got pretty banged up and for a while we were down our right and left tackle and right guard.. That affected us quite a bit and you could see we didn’t get any pass protection and some of the runs we actually saw our line men in the back field which is just sad… I’m not sure what happened to Ray Edwards and Kevin Williams I guess they just had to much to eat at the free buffet…
EJ Henderson is the one who got injured during the game and he’s a LB for us as well as a defensive co-captian. He got his femur broken and is obviously out for the season. Hopefully, he should be able to come back next year though. Winfield had turf toe and has been out for seven weeks now. He is expected back just about any day now…

Hey wait...didn't you guys used to have Adrian Peterson on your team?

I thought he was still a Viking but every time I turn on ESPN it’s always “Brett Favre and the Vikings!” What’s up with that?

by JohnnyK on Dec 8, 2009 6:31 PM EST reply actions

Well, it is AD's team

At least that was what was supposed to happen, however, since teams tend to over stack the box on us it’s been allowing Favre to go off. Hopefully when teams try and scheme away from this and more to stopping Favre AD will get his chance to go galloping off again.

You guys might get lucky and see it first hand! :D I mean he does have over 1000 yards rushing and I think the second most TD’s of an NFC running back so it’s not like he’s completely lost out…

O-Line

Who’s going to play on your O-Line this week and how is that going to affect AP?

This is our year!

by Carsonorbust on Dec 8, 2009 9:36 PM EST reply actions

We shoudl be back to strength I believe

Hererra, Loadholt and McKinney had issues last week but I think they all are ready and willing to play now. If they are all up to snuff this will help out immensely. I like it that a post above someone asked if AD was even on the team anymore and then this post wants to know how he’ll be affected by the line having issues.

Seriously though, I’m still waiting for teams to stop stacking the box and to start defending against the pass. I think that will be the day thta you see AD go to the races. Our O-Line has been very strong for us this year with only Sully (the center) being a real weak point on the run. Sully is a bit undersized and doesn’t seem able to get the push needed to get people out of AD’s way.

by Grime on Dec 9, 2009 9:29 AM EST up reply actions

We’re pretty confident in our corners, so i don’t expect Peterson to have a breakout game against, but I am worried about our D-Line with Domata Peko out until the playoffs.

This is our year!

by Carsonorbust on Dec 9, 2009 12:15 PM EST up reply actions

Really?

is he that important? Looking at the Bengals stats it looks like you guys just crush the run. That can’t have all been on mans job. I’m sure your D will shore up and close the holes on us. How long is Peko out for anyway?

Although now that i think about it the Steelers defense falls apart completely when Polumalu is out.

by Grime on Dec 9, 2009 1:26 PM EST up reply actions

Peko is out until Jan 3rd and he is probably the heart of our run D. Our linebackers are excellent and deep but its our front 4 that’s getting a little bit thin with injury. Our D certainly hasn’t fallen apart but losing Peko is a big hit.

by The Dealio on Dec 9, 2009 2:44 PM EST up reply actions

I guess I’m reacting partially to him being out last game against the Lions. Smith averaged 4.7 yards per carry without him and we didn’t look nearly as dominating as we have in previous games.
But, yes, i think that he is that important to our Defense. Maybe not Palamalu important, but he has been the key part of stopping the run for us.

This is our year!

by Carsonorbust on Dec 9, 2009 5:26 PM EST up reply actions

well that stinks

I would much rather play you guys at your best. I can honestly say this game makes me very nervous, it will be a fun game to watch and a good test for both teams.

by Grime on Dec 10, 2009 9:08 AM EST up reply actions

Agreed. Nobody is at “Full Strength” this time of year. We’ll be without Peko, and you’ll be without Henderson. That’s just how it goes.

This is our year!

by Carsonorbust on Dec 10, 2009 12:25 PM EST up reply actions

well the good news

Is that it’s looking more and more likely that Winfield will be playing this Sunday, So Ocho will at least have him to play with. I know he was disapointed not to be playing against him.

by Grime on Dec 11, 2009 3:06 PM EST up reply actions

I'm not sure it's a good thing

when first he’s your ‘old’ center, and second your willing to give him to us for free right before we play you… Sounds a bit like the ol Trojan horse play to me…

What the nickname wasn’t enough of a giveaway? ;)

Thanks, Grime

I was going to do this from work this afternoon, but my ability to register for CJ at work was blocked.

Np man

I’ve been doing this with Seattle and the Cards didn’t know it was anyones job so I just did it.

by Grime on Dec 9, 2009 9:29 AM EST up reply actions

Do you think Brett will throw 5 INTS against the 2009 Bengals D?

Cause, well, he did against our 2005 D, which is nowhere near as good, talented, or deep.

by Danimal, Destroyer of Worlds on Dec 9, 2009 12:16 AM EST reply actions

Luckily for us

We’re a bit better than his team was in 05 as well. :)

I don’t think Favre is going to be throwing a bunch of int’s this week. Think is the operative word of course. The line should be in better shape so he will have more time, and I think our run is going to be much more affective in this game than it was against the Cardinals (at least I hope to God it is) AD and the Oline have something to prove this week after being completley shut down last week and it should be interesting to watch them and see if they can make the statement.

by Grime on Dec 9, 2009 9:32 AM EST up reply actions

Hey Grimey,

What’s the word on Antoine Winfield? Also, what’s your opinion on the Vikes Secondary, including former Bengal Madieu Williams? BTW, I’ll be at the Game Sunday to see it in person. Look for the guy steeling the Vikes horn to give to Chad after his TD celebration!

by The Dealio on Dec 9, 2009 2:48 PM EST reply actions

Antoine Antoine Antoine

Seriously missing him right now he’s the heart of our pass defense and he is a leader out there as well. Without him out there I’ve noticed our tackling looking awfully sloppy. I’m hoping he’ll be good to go this week as I think everyone took notes last week and will be hitting our secondary for points.. Turf toe, can can something that sounds so innocuous take so dang long to heal?

As for Madeiu you can have him back. Actually, it’s not that bad but he’s not earning his sizable paychecks at the Vikings. How was he when he played for the Bengals? The Vikes have has such hard times with their secondary I’m not sure if it’s player talent or a serious problem with the coaching… Maybe to much lead in the water.. Who knows.

By the way good luck with that horn I hear it’s kinda big and they guy who is next to it has an Axe..

by Grime on Dec 9, 2009 3:11 PM EST reply actions

madieu was phenonmenal his rookie season, then he hurt his shoulder and never quite got back to the level he was that first year. i think leslie frazier overvalued him from being the d-coordinator that drafted him.

i'm going to go america all over your ass!

by Raging Clue on Dec 9, 2009 7:09 PM EST up reply actions

I can agree with that

I’m certainly glad the contract wasn’t matched by us. Such a world of potential Madieu Williams was, but alas, not to be seen.

by Danimal, Destroyer of Worlds on Dec 9, 2009 11:44 PM EST up reply actions

Well I had never seen him before he came to Minny

So it’s nice when you all say he was a good safety at one time. Looking at him now and the money he makes… Well, here’s my question when your DC is a DB coach how is it that your teams DB’s are your weak point?
