Bengals put Chase Coffman on season-ending Injury Reserve with bone spurs in his ankle
The Bengals officially signed Defensive Tackle Shaun Smith on Wednesday, tweets Joe Reedy. After hearing rumors and reports that he was in town and could sign, that became less of a surprise.
The real surprise?
The Bengals put tight end Chase Coffman on season-ending Injury Reserve. Josh Katzowitz writes that Coffman was suffering from bone spurs in his ankle. Coffman's placement on IR is no real loss, considering he wasn't active for any regular season games this year. However, the prospect that the Bengals would cut Daniel Coats -- because, for the love god, you have to cut Daniel Coats -- suddenly dimmed.

Oh sweet lord of mercy..
Shaun Smith better not destroy this year. They might have to install bars on the lockers now.. Coffman going on IR will at least quiet half of the “who can help the offense” debate.

COFFMAN ON I.R?
Is it me, or is this the first time I ever heard of Coffman having bone spurs! When did this happen all of a sudden? He wasn’t active at all during the season! I don’t get it! Now if they placed him on I.R. for having splinters in his ass for riding the pine all season long, I could at least understand that! To me this whole scenario sounds VERY fishy to me. Not active for a single game this year, and gets bone spurs in his ankle. Just doesn’t sound right to me. Does anyone agree with me, or am I just being paranoid? Is it that i’m used to the “BUNGLES” doing things in a crazy way? I hope not, because I can’t stand when people call them that anyway! Hopefully this whole situation is just a weird event!
You guys do realize
Even though players are inactive they still practice in full contact pads and can be injured then. We lost two tight ends for the season in training camp, so someone getting hurt during season practice should be no surprise.

"He wasn’t active at all during the season!"
do you suppose he was sitting around on the couch, waiting to be activated?
Injuries can happen during activity. Coincidentally, there is also activity during practice. Even non activated players get to practice.
You are crazy, dunno if the fishy part is true or not, but your earlier part was crazy.
I guess a winning record brings out freaks.
Foot injury
If I remember correctly he had a stress fracture in his foot even before the combine. When recovering from such an issue it can be very common to develop bone spurs as a result.

I think I got it figured out why he hasn't been cut.
Daniel Coats MUST have some embarrassing pix of Mikey or Katie somewhere.
