What do you think of when you hear the name "Tank Johnson"? Bengals meet with defensive tackle

So, Tank Johnson. What do you think of when musing to yourself the name Tank Johnson? Do you think defensive tackle? Do you think 12 career sacks, two forced fumbles, a safety? Do you think 300-way-plus pounds of defensive brick-wall.

Sure. Sure you do.

The Bengals sat down with Johnson on Thursday night to get a feel for the defensive tackle who was "intrigued" with the team's youth, writes Geoff Hobson.

In truth, it's surprising that the Bengals keep focusing on free agency for the defensive line. This comes on the same day about B.J. Raji's reported positive drug test. Coincidence?

So, tell me, what do you think when you hear, "Tank Johnson"?

I think...

…that you don’t normally hear words like Tank, Johnson and Bengals in the same sentence…

granted were gonna get an overwheming amount of shit from the national media

if we sign him and draft Andre Smith but I don’t think we should dismiss Tank because of that. A stud DT with legitimate pass rush is something the Bengals have sorely lacked for a LONG time. I think it is something to look into……..provided the price is right and the deal has very little guaranteed of course. you have to cover your ass with a player with his track record

I don’t really have a problem with it. Sure, it will create a media “jail theme” storm but the last time I checked, he was in trouble two years ago. I believe players have the ability to change. Of course, Mike Zimmer and Marvin Lewis have to do extensive interviews and phone calls to make sure that he’s on track. However, Tank Johnson is the player we desperately need. He fits our scheme perfectly and he will add another dimension to our defense. I support signing Tank Johnson.

I have a bigger problem not unloading a player that wants to be trade.Denver saw the hand writing on the wall with Cutler. They would be lucky to get a 3rd round pick for Chadly now.Imagine two extra first round draft picks. The Bengals have put themselves in a position where they have to take risks on players like Tank. They will probably wait until after the draft to sign any other vets. I still think they have a shot to trade down if the top OTs are gone.

i’d LOVE to see Tank, Peko, and Sims rotate at DT………SMASHMOUTH…..cmon people, This guy is an animal that’s been stuck in a 3-4 for the past 2 years. he needs to be unleashed into the AFC North trenches……..

SIGN THE TANK………BRING THE PAIN……

3 yards and a pile of dust

Well the rotation would be Sims, Peko, Johnson and Shirely. That would be a decent group of young DTs.

If Tank has changed and settled down, and ZImmer wants him, then i am fine with signing him.

Right!

Can you imagine…a more agile pair of Sims and Peko operating in space between the 20s or so, but then think about Tank Johnson and Jason Shirley in goal line situations! One yard up the gut would no longer be a given…

To be honest, I’m tired of giving a shit what the national media thinks of us. If Tank can help stop the run and create a push up the gut, I’m fine with judging him on the last two years character-wise and just using the Bears years for on the field scrutiny. I mean, fuck the talk shows and the late night comics. It won’t be nearly so funny when we have a defense to be reckoned with. Oh, and trade Chad. And get on the J-Train, the Jorvorskie Lane train, that is!

Tank Johnson's Visit

What do you expect these guys are modern day gladiators, enjoyment for the FANATICS (Fans). When you have young uneducated millionaires, some are bound to get into trouble. On the other hand, it would be a poor biz/football decision not to add Tank to the D-Line.

"On the other hand, it would be a poor biz/football decision not to add Tank to the D-Line."

Agree 100%. What’s the problem with looking into it, at least. Nothing.

Sure

I wouldnt mind adding Tank. He would be our #3 and play on passing downs. I know he had that gun charge a few seasons back but it really wasnt that bad. My buddy is a huge cowboys fan and he wasnt sad to see Tank not re-sign. He didnt do much last season and couldnt find a way to get himself on the field much. I watched every cowboys game lasy season and he didnt jump off the screen when he was on the field. But he was playing on a 3-4 defense and that dosnt suit him soo much. so Sure sign him and lets see.
