Marvin Lewis Says No

Lewisno_medium

They tried to make me to trade Ocho
And I said, "no, no, no."

- Done to the tune of "Rehab" by Amy Winehouse

And there you have it, folks.  Once again, Marvin Lewis is the voice of reason -- if reason means avoiding a $5 million cap hit -- when it comes to all things Ocho.  When asked about trading his sad receiver, Lewis offered this response:

"I don't know why people continue with the speculation of moving Chad," Lewis said. "Many times we've reiterated, I don't know if we're keeping count on this, Chad's not getting moved. ... I don't know if any team that goes through a draft doesn't draft a wideout. I'm sure there will be at least 32 receivers picked in this draft by 32 teams. Chances are we probably take a wideout at some point in the draft."

So there you have it: the definitive word on Ocho's status with the Bengals -- at least until Saturday.  My question is (even though I said something about it in the opening), is this strictly to avoid the cap hit or does Lewis really think COC has a future with a franchise that makes him cry?

H/t to FanHouse for the find.

an idea

right now teams are bringing in multiple players that they are “considering” drafting when really its just a ploy to get teams thinking……

any chance the bengals are saying they are keeping chad to maybe get more than what they have been offered (or would get offered)?

My Take on the whole Chad crying like Chris Crocker (the OTHER one)

As if we didn’t need more news about Chad Johnson man-crying to his bromance buddy T.J. Houshmandzadeh, we’re probably in for a repeat performances. Or sequels. And sequels are never as good as the originals. And no one cared for this original. Then again, would you mind that your best buddy said that you were “crying” for a trade? All I can imagine now is that Chad Johnson sits in his living room, palms on face, sobbing with his pride feeling mortally wounded. Do you feel sorry for him? Is that the point? Most likely it’s all contrived as a painting to expressively detail just how badly Johnson wants to be gone.

And some of you want him to stay on this team.

Look (not literally), if you’re been a long-term follower of my glorious blogging throughout the past six-plus years of the Bengals, I’ve been as big a supporter of his as anyone. This? This. It’s petty, trival and while jobs are being eliminated across the country, unemployment lines increase and people literally sit in their chairs and feel their bleak futures weighing too heavily on their shoulders. I’m not here to promote all that, or bring all of us into a reality that doesn’t include the fantasy of sports. But crying. Crying. About being traded. We’re hearing selfish at its highest peak.

It’s not like I dislike him. Sometimes parting ways is the best thing to do for the player and team. If he’s not motivated to play for the Bengals, what good can he do? Is there an unrealistic hope that he’ll bounce back and put up the gaudy numbers he did before just because we wish it?

Yeah, and Marvo said they wouldn’t be bringing Slim back into the fold either. Bye bye, Glenn Frey Chad!.

The irony here isn't lost

Just like Henry, the whole Chad Johnson thing is totally out of Marvin’s hands also.

I still want to trade Chad

But asides his shoulder twisting 90 degrees I’m not sure his trade value could be any lower.

I would keep him

I’m not any happier about this nonsense than the next guy but I would keep Chad given the current conditions. His trade value has simply slipped too far and no one gets rich selling low.

He may pout, but he knows the only way to get out of cincy and get that new contract he wants is to put up pro bowl numbers. And if he can figure this out (I know its a big if) he is worth way more than the mid round offers were probably getting now

We are stuck with the CRYBABY

We probably can’t even get a # 2 for Cryin’ Chad. Of course, I hope he helps us win this year, but his going in the tank is certainly more likely. I thought “85” had gone as low as he possibly could, but then he surprises you by setting a new standard for showing his ass. Ocho Stinko, just another part of the curse on our franchise..

Make the playoffs

All will be forgotten if he puts up big numbers and we go to the playoffs. i think thats all he wants to do is win. you know its not money…. he wouldnt have gave up half a mil if he was broke

I will believe it when I see it!

I really don’t believe anything about the Bengals. I think they will trade him if they get an unbelievable offer. THEY SHOULD TRADE HIM! He hates being here. As much as I would like for him to change his attitude and start River Dancing again I think its time for a change. But we will most likely have to endure a season of anger and disappointment from him. I pray not though!
