With the 38th selection in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select LB Rey Maualuga
With the 38th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select USC Middle Linebacker Rey Maualuga. Good selection. We expected the Bengals to address center in the second round, but when their first two targets Eric Wood and Alex Mack went in the first round, we projected that the Bengals would go linebacker or running back.
Scouts Inc. rated Maualuga with the score of 91 and ranked him as the best linebacker coming into the NFL Draft.

awesome pick!
I went to grad school at ‘SC and saw both Rivers & Rey play there. I was thrilled when we got Rivers last year and this tops that! I don’t know how Matthews & Cushing moved so far ahead of ReyRey, he was the heart of the D this year and a total force on the field…awesome pick!

How often do we have a UNANIMOUS result in a poll around here? :) Of course now somebody will vote no just to break it up, but by rankings this was a steal and a half. If he’s even half as good as we think he is he’ll be a decent player, and if he’s better then he’ll be showing up 20 years from now in “best draft day steals” on NFL.com.

hmmm, not sure how long you’ve been a Bengal fan, but they’ve actually done this several times before in the SAME draft..Peter Warrick & Ron Dugans (FSU), Chad Johnson & TJ (Oregon State)…and uh, it doesn’t matter
Rey is a force on the field, he LOVES to hit people, basically think Takeo Spikes in his prime, this is a great pick

Well.
Those were in the same year. Rivers and Rey were different seasons in which they were drafted.
However, just to stick to topic of players drafted from the same school. I have more.
Ghiaciuc and Kieft from Central Michigan.

Love The Picks
Now we need Antoine Caldwell the center, Andre’s teammate, in the third round

@cinbengal_85
I definitely agree with drafting Caldwell, not only will it balance out the ‘Johnsons’, but I feel that since we need a C pretty bad, why not get a C that has proven chemistry with our new big money OT. Plus hes one of those guys that can handle the nose tackles of the AFCN.. Unless Marv and the gang are sold on someone else, the question is why not get Caldwell… please, please dont tell me Santucci would be better…
