Defense

A lot of questions have poped up about how the O-Line will sort out with our new draft picks. My question is how will the defense look? D. Jones, while not a game changer, is a very smart, mistake free, defensive captain.  How soon do we pull him and put in Rey M? I was hoping Jeanty would be the next LB to be replaced, not Jones. While Jeanty is a strong run stopper, he is not player that is feared. Can Rey play SAM backer? He and Rivers would be great on the outsides while Jones called the shots in the middle. We now also have 3 DE's that are labeled as 3rd down pass rushers. Rucker and Fenene are supposed to be our run stopping DE's but we now have Odom, Geathers and Johnson all as a pass rushing DE. Who plays 1st and 2nd down and who plays 3rd?

Actually, I’m not convinced that the Bengals won’t slide Rey to the SAM spot. I don’t know enough about Rey’s play to make that assertion, but I’m starting to think that the argument is there.

Rey is even more of a playmaker than Rivers, he can absolutely play the SAM spot.

How about dhani at olb,rey at mlb or some 3-4/ 3-5 with various combos of rivers,rey,johnson,dhani,jeanty—just might keep some co-ordinators up at night

D.Jones is too small to play SAM. He is either a MIKE or WILL. While he’s not feared by opposing offenses his football intelegence is needed on the field. He’s like the QB of the defense. Jeanty, Rey, and even Geathers are good size SAM backers.

I think Jeanty might be the next player to pack his bags

I am not saying I don’t like him. He made some heavy hits. Luga is the future…and maybe the present.

Since he only signed a minimum deal, he should stick around. He’s great on special teams and would be a great back-up. As long as he’s not hurting the salary cap, I say keep him.

he can’t be too happy about Luga taking his job.
