Report: Leon Hall charged with DUI
Do you ever have those moments where you slap yourself in the head for making a point, only to have it countered and punched right back in your face? For the past day, we've defended the Bengals and how the national media unfairly characterizes the Bengals as the official terrorist-sponsoring team in the NFL.
Then the Enquirer's Barrett Brunsman (and Leon Hall) totally makes me look like an idiot.
Bengals cornerback Leon Hall is to be arraigned in Clermont County Municipal Court on Friday on charges that include driving under the influence of alcohol.
AdvertisementHall, 24, also was cited for driving left of center after being pulled over at 3:11 a.m. on April 5 on Ohio 125 in Union Township by Trooper N.J. Pabin of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Bengals spokesman, Jack Brennan said “We were aware of the charge. Anybody can get charged with anything. We don’t feel it’s appropriate to comment on a legal matter that’s not resolved.”
Hall told the Ohio State Highway Patrol that his wife had called him, asking to come home, saying that she was having a baby. The Enquirer didn't follow up on that. So we're not sure if it was lame-ass excuse or if he was super-serial.
If you guys want to point and laugh at me, I'll take it. This time.

Obviously, this patrolman was brainwashed by the biased media, right gang? I bet he reads James Walker’s AFC North blog.

rushing home to take his pregnant wife to the hospital makes a DUI more explainable, but Donte Stallworth just showed us how drinking and driving can turn something small, like a guy in the street, into a multi-life destroying event.
For some as rich as Hall, there is no excuse, he could have had a limo take him home or find a sober driver.
Further, the Bengals need to have a limo service on speed dial for all of their players to eliminate this situations.
Hall had seemed like a smart guy, hopefully, he’ll learn from this.

I think your overall point still remains solid....
this is one (1) arrest since JJ’s Jan 2007 arrest, faced with the utter feloniousness of the rest of the league. Further, his wife was really having a baby. I think this was tremendously stupid, but is more excusable than alot of the other teams’ thuggery. (James “Wifebeater” Harrison, anyone?)

no harm no foul
If my pregnant wife called me in that situation im sure i would have done the same. I doubt he was thinking clearly and only thinking about getting there as fast as possible. Though i do like the limo on speed dial idea, especially with all the critasism the bengals have gotten in the last 5 years.

My sister got a DUI last winter. She had to pay a fine, go to AA, have one of those breathalyzer things on her car, and get pissed tested randomly for a year. According to friends in law enforcement, that was actually a fairly serious penalty for a first offense. While I in know way condone the behavior- see Stallworth, Donte- in terms of NFL conduct policy, this is hardly a blip on the radar. Let Hall pay his debt to whatever court system he offended in and move on.

That’s why you go to Ohio State not Michigan.
Screw you Leon Hall for making us look bad again!!!

I thought Hall was a safe pick too....
Oh well, he will get past this and it shouldn’t affect him on the field.

So he was wetting the baby's head
Normally you do this after they’re born Leon :p
Btw DUI in the UK is a minimum 12 month ban and fine.
I also recall from a previous discussion that there are more arrests in Cincinnati as it’s a small city and that has skewed the arrest total to make it look like there’s a huge problem at the Bengals. With many of these arrests for something drink related, you’d hope that by now the limo is on speed dial and the parties are paid for or at someone’s house.

perhaps
Hall was simply depressed after realizing he was, in fact, from that team up north?

Well… Better than the DUI from that player in Cleveland….
Don’t think he will get suspended since it is his first arrest.

"we will get more heat for this than cleveland for dante’s situation"
I very much doubt that.
However, I was somewhat surprised at the level of reaction from Bengals fans on the radio today. Many were making it out to be the worst thing that they could ever experience in life! However, many said he made a mistake and to move on.
I found it most surprising that no one, and I mean no one, mentioned that his wife was reportedly in labor. Not that it’s an excuse, but c’mon — when the wife is in labor, we have one track minds.

I’ve heard some Bengal fans call him a turd and that he should be cut. Emotions are really high at the moment and it all seems very overblown. A DUI is a serious thing but not so serious it removes a man’s character. As noted in the Bengals.com website Hall took over M. William’s Hospital charity work so he’s obviously a good guy.
Doe’s this ruin the Bengal’s recent good work with character issues: No
But it just proves that these are over paid young men who will get into trouble – like the rest of us. And nothing is certain when dealing with human beings.
That said i think the “turn around” of Benson will make Brown more inclined to take risks on character issues (ie Andre Smith)

He got a DUI on his way to be there in time to see his child born. He didn’t shoot up a strip club in the middle of a crack binge. Was it wrong? Yes. Judging by what his blood alcohol level was he probably had like 4 maybe 5 beers. Honestlly, How many of you have driven home from the bar after 4 or 5 beers? He made a bad judgment call, he’s not a criminal. Hell, 20 years ago that wouldn’t even been considered a DUI

online dui calculators puts it at 8 beers in 1 hour for a 200lb male.
If you know your wife is due, handle your business
Hall seems like a good guy though, and I think he’ll go out of his way to make up for this
And at least he wasn’t as drunk as former Steeler Clark Haggans back in ’03

What will happen with this? Will he be suspended? If the baby thing is true, shouldn’t he get a muligan from Goodell?
by smoormandiddy on Apr 9, 2009 9:40 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
As it is his first DUI he wont – or shouldn’t – get anything other than a fine. If he swore/went crazy at the police he could’ve gotten a 1 game suspention but he was polite and well-mannered so that’s covered.
