Oregon Defensive End Nick Reed to visit Cincinnati
PFT writes that Oregon linebacker (actually a defensive end) Nick Reed is scheduled for a visit with the Bengals, as well as Seattle. Reed became a first-team All-American, recording 13 sacks (first in the Pac-10) and winning the Morris Trophy -- Pac-10's top defensive player of the year award. He was also voted Most Outstanding Player by his teammates. Addicted to Quack named him the defensive player of the year.
Nick Reed defined "impact player" during his career at Oregon. His numbers in 2008 were again gaudy: 53 tackles, 20 tackles for-a-loss, 13 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries. Nick was a two-time first-team All Pac-10 player, a first-team All-American and the Pac-10's 2008 Morris Trophy winner as the top defensive lineman.
Could Marvin Lewis be envisioning Reed as David Pollack redux (convert defensive end to linebacker)?

I watch Pac-10 games all the time, this guy is snubbed from the combine. He was one of the top defensive player in the Pac-10 conference. The only knock against him is his 6-1 size. He can be a DE/OLB type of player. I hope we grab this guy in the later rounds. He will be a huge steal.

"He was one of the top defensive player in the Pac-10 conference"
Actually, he was the top defensive player in the conference. He’s no David Pollack, but if the Bengals look at him, think he could work out as a tweener (DE/OLB)?

No tweening
The dude was good as a DE so leave him as a DE. Im tired of this tweener bullshit. We dont need anymore broken necks.

He’s not tall enough (or heavy enough) to stay at DE in the NFL. He is a perfect fit for LB in the NFL with his size. Pollack was starting to look really good at SAM untill the freak injury. And that is what it was. A freak injury which shouldn’t put a team off a well established process of taking undersized college players and fitting them into the NFL style of football. I mean that is what Indy, the Steelers and the Pats do every year, take marginal guys and find what their good at and then mould that into a larger role.

I DO have a cousin named Nick Reed...
…but sadly, this ain’t him, so don’t look at me for an inside track for tix if the Bengals draft him! ;-)

Tweeners
I agree that this experiment just doesn’t work for us. Pollock was not comfortable the the LB move and was actually much more productive when they did let him play DE. Eric Henderson can’t seem to fit into either spot. If they do want someone to play both, Conner Barwin seems to be the best option as he has some natural versitility.

It’s okay, USC had the dude from Megadeath ready to take over for Sanchez.
