Do you believe we are overly optimistic?

Yes, I understand the offseason acquisitions we have made such as Rey Maualuga, Tank, Roy Williams, re signed Benson. But i truly believe that is not good enough. I personally think Chad has forever lost his game. I do strongly believe Laveranous  Coles can help us, but i dont think it can get us over the hump. Im more concerned with the running game more than the offensive line (even though they are strongly related) I just dont think Benson is the answer. At least our Defense should be a bright spot. I hope that im proven dead wrong.

But we do have Palmer back, along with 23 others who were on IR. I guess we"ll see

Absolutely Not!

I’m going to try and list just a handful of reasons to be optimistic about next season.

  1. - Carson Palmer
You said it. I’ll say it again. Healthy Carson is a top 5 QB in the league. A healthy Fitzpatrick from last year probably cracks the top ten in my Grandma’s Nursing home squad (that is if he doesn’t wilt under G-Ma’s pass rush…she plays D-End).
  1. - Defense
What happens when you have a top 15 defense and then add Roy Williams, Tank Johnson, Michael Johnson, Rey (to Be Nicknamed) Maualuga, you return Robert Geathers / Keith Rivers (healthy!), you have starting safties like Ndukwe and Crocker competing for a starting role and don’t lose anybody of major significance from the previous season? Answer: We don’t know yet. But, I’d place my bets on over rather than under.
  1. - I’ve got a feeling
I know I wasn’t this pumped about our season last year at this time. So I am going to apply the scientificly produced “Optimism index” in which the Bengals are scoring a 9.2 out of 10. On another note, I think that the Bengals “Tolerability index” has also gone up from a 3.1 to a 7.8 from last year thanks to fewer arrests and decreased whining.
  1. - Passing Game
I personally think Chad has forever lost his game

Even if you’re right about Chad, I don’t feel too back about a Coles/Henry/Caldwell tandem. However, I disagree about your Chad assessment. I think we have to remember that Chad’s 2008 performance was a product of his attitude coupled with the Bengals inability to throw the ball downfield (we were dead last in the NFL in Passing plays over 20 yards and 2nd to last in passing plays over 40 yards). It seems unlikely that Carson is going to have the same problem.
  1. - Hair
Beween Marvin Lewis and Chad Ochocinco, we looked a bit like cancer ward last year. But this year, we’ve got Rey who has enough hair to send us straight back to the seventies.

As for the running game, I would expect things to open up a little with a more potent passing attack (maybe not a lot, but I expect some improved numbers). We also have some unknowns in Leonard and Scott who could prove to be effective in 3rd down situations (where we ranked 27th in the league by percentage).

Who Dey! Go Orange and Black!

I’m not ready to give up on Chad just yet. I still think he can put up Pro Bowl numbers again this year.

Chad has forever lost his game? Because he slacked off for one season in which he didn’t have a QB that could throw it deep or an o-line that could give the qb time to throw?

Wow.

he slacked off! thats bullshit! the NFL is middle school football! The cincinnati bengals pay him MILLIONS to slack off! Thats the problem. Randy Moss was good last year without tom brady!

Brady-less Moss

Moss was good without Brady, huh?

How would you compare Matt Cassel to Ryan FitzNumbNuts?

How would you compare New England’s O-Line to that of Cincy’s?

How would you compare New England’s overall winning atmosphere to that of Cincy’s?

Don’t you think that just maybe those were factors in Moss still putting up good numbers compared to CJ not having a good year? …his ONLY bad year of his career…check that, it wasn’ta BAD year…it was a “Non-Pro-Bowl Caliber” year.

If not, answer me this:

How well did Randy Moss do in Oakland without a good Quarterback, an offense line that could pass protect or a total lack of any other effective skill position players??

Don’t you think that’s a bit more relevant?

I have said it before

Bengals fans are eternal optimists. That’s the only way you can survive as a Bengals fan.

It's still a good season if we go 2-14 and beat the Steelers twice.

Any long time fan of the Bengals will tell you....

…..that the team just seems to find a way to lose year in and year out. So I remain skeptical. But, I will admit things do look promising. Of course, it’s not hard to improve over last years training camp. Just having people show up and playing together beats last year by a mile. And they somehow won 4 games last year too? No reason to think they can’t at least double that, especially with a much kinder schedule than this team has seen in quite a while.

85 was hurt too last year.

Bum shoulder and opting not to have surgery, he had to be covering for that.

Yea

We are probably a bit overly optimistic about the team, but that isn’t a bad thing. I need to be realistic about the important things but I am for allowing everyone to have a good feeling about the team as long as they can. What is so bad about feeling good? We have a whole season to come down or maybe – just maybe – be lifted even higher.
