Encoring some older Fanposts in the wake of Kenny getting the axe...
Does Kenny Watson even get a chance?
I am getting tired of Lewis not using Kenny at all. Last season when Perry was diving to the ground to avoid contact and he brought in Cedric Benson I was shocked that Watson didn't get any touches. In '07 Kenny was a force when Rudi was injured and no one wanted to step-up and make a play. It was Kenny's perseverance that kept Cincy in those games. We owe him a chance at 3rd down back.

Give Kenny Watson a chance
Assuming he's back from injuries, I really hope the Bengals give Watson a shot to be the starter. I've seen nothing impressive from Benson. Watson's worst ever ypc average over a season is better than Benson's best ever. In 2007 when the o-line was injury depleted and just miserable all around, Watson still put up very good numbers. His entire career he's posted solid numbers, well over 4 ypc, and he's a good blocker. I don't understand why he doesn't get a shot to be the starter.

Kenny Watson's career stats:
The 4.6 career ypc isn't too bad. Espeically if you figure the great Corey Dillon only averaged 4.3 ypc and Rudi Johnson only averaged 3.9 ypc behind essentially the same line that Kenny got his 4.6 behind. In fact, Rudi never even had a single season where he got 4.6 ypc.
But it is what it is. The Bengals don't keep old players around. When you hit 30, you'd better rent a moving van, because you're getting cut.... (except for Chad Eight Five)

Just out of curiosity, is the love affair with Brian Leonard based on anything that’s been seen in camp? I’ve said before that I liked his chances coming out of college, but in this crowd he’s made out to be a shoe-in for at least the #2 spot. Is this just hype and hope or is there some tangible reason for this optimism?
Yeah
The coaches love him. Did you see the Friday night scrimmage?

although not as many videos as I’d like, you can get good highlights there.

I look at it occasionally, but Hobson’s writing is so god-awful I can’t stand to linger long. I’ll go back and look for videos.
Ken Watson
Is Brown being cheap again by cutting Watson? What is KW being paid for next year vs. other fullbacks?
It's not the money
Kenny wasn’t making much more than minimum, especialy after being cut last year. I think people are reading too much into this. While he’s a great team player, he’s an 8 year utility back who’s time was up. Not many backs make it as long as Kenny did. He did everything he was asked but as he got older, younger and better replacements came along. That’s just the name of the game.

31 years old and never once was a true starter
enough said, we need to move on to a younger guy that is more durable.
The Bengals just don't buy into Watson
When Watson has played, he has done well.
His reward….no increased playing time.
That’s been his fate for a couple years in Cincy.
He’s good when he plays, but he’s not what Marvin wants (apparently).
So now that they have some average backups (Dorsey, Johnson, Scott, Leonard), they can finally let him go…which I’d guess they’d have done sooner if they’d had better backups.
I really want to see JJ and Fui lined up in the backfield together..

I picked him because he's a draft pick
If he wasn’t I would definetly go with James Johnson or Dede Dorsey.
