Un. Believable.
To borrow a phrase from a fellow cincybengals.com poster, Mike Brown would rather make a point than make the playoffs.
Absolutely ridiculous.

For some reason . . .
I feel that Mike Brown should stand his ground. I think he may be right.

With you on this one.
Rookies are waaaaaaaaaaay over paid. This fatso hasn’t taken one friggin snap in the NFL and wants to get paid whatever he and his fucking agent wants? Fuck that. Go get re-drafted in 2010. You and your grotesque flabby tits are not welcome here. So you think you won’t be able to survive with 30 million? Really? You need 40 million to make ends meet? Fuuuuuuckkkkkk youuuuuuuuu.

Looks Like Brown is happy with the OL the way it is
Andre Smith is going to be the only loser in this. His only option now will be to investigate suing for free agency. He has a right to earn a living, and if he goes a full year of no football, he will be out of football.

i doubt any judge would allow that case to see the light of day in court, based on the argument that the team is offering him millions of dollars in order to make his living. as it stands, andre’s just going to cost himself 20 million dollars by not signing and getting picked in the third round (at the earliest) next year.

Yup but if his agent allows him to take such a “horrible” deal then his career is over instead.
Andre’s only hope is to fire his agent again, then negotiate on his own.

Hit post too soon...
As I said, his only hope (of playing this season at least, possibly even ever) is to fire his agent again. He can always bring back his best buddy afterwards if he wants, or somebody else. But it might actually work out in his favor. Take a joke of an offer but not be paying an agent’s commission… he’d probably actually come out even that way.

no source to back you up on this. for one, i guarantee you the redskins would draft him late in the first round given the chance.

Not sure what to think anymore
I think Mike could play this card if we had depth at OL but we don’t. Alvin and the Chipmunk knows we don’t either. Both sides think they have the upper hand and both sides are just as stubborn as the other. This could get nasty.

oh, i think Mr, Brown thinks he has depth
And he will stick by that. I don’t see Andre ever suiting up for the men in stripes now. If there is no legal recourse, then it’s time to trade Andre, if he can.

I think you're getting ahead of yourself.
I don’t think I’m close to ready to say Andre Smith will never play for the Bengals.

...
When’s the latest the Bengals have ever signed their first round pick? Anyone know?
by WhoDeyDerek on Aug 24, 2009 12:59 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
There was a post on this somewhere..
I’ll try to find it.

There's this:
http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20090809/SPT02/908090367
Somewhere though there was a chart of the Bengals longest holdouts. I can’t find it now.

Justin Smith signed the day before the season
Rickey Hundley never signed, and his rights were traded to the Broncos in season.
First time I shot her, shot her in the side.
Hard to watch her suffer, but with the second shot she died...

We're doomed
Let’s get this straight. Mike Brown plays it passive yet again, waits for the chips to fall where they may, then decides he doesn’t like it. You sign your man early or you throw yourself to the mercy of the slotting system. What words are there possibly left to describe Mike Brown’s idiocy?
FriarBob is spot on. Keels accepts the offer currently on the table and his career is over. He has no incentive to accept and I’m sure Andre Smith is well past the point of being insulted by the sub-Heyward Bey offer.
“That’s a lot of money!” Well, f*ckface Brown family, let’s talk about the millions and millions of dollars you’ve burgled from the city of Cincinnati. THAT’S a lot of money. What a joy it must be to make so many people unhappy and hate a product they should absolutely love.

In Brown's defense (and this is the only time I'll ever do this)
Al Davis’s Heyward-Bey contract is a joke.

I agree
Signed for 22% more than the #7 pick last year. And, Crabtree and his agent think he should be paid more than that.
Both of these holdouts go into the season.

Yeah it's a joke
But like Bodacio says- Mike Brown waited to sign him and now he’s at the mercy of the slotting system. It’s not Keels or Andre’s fault Al Davis is an idiot. He’s probably the only owner dumber than Mike Brown.
I think we can rephrase the Keels tweet to “Hi, I’m Mike Brown and I’m a cheapskate.”

NCC
If Mike is disgusted by the money players get at the top of the first round, maybe he should figure out a way to win more games. Then he will be drafting later, and paying less.
by NCC on Aug 24, 2009 6:58 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
money
If they sign him, they are going to be wasting 1/2 of his first year salary b/c he wasnt in here in time.
the guy is lazy and won’t be in shape. he is also stupid and wont know the playbook.
The bengals may save $ on paper, but in reality they are losing money by not getting him in here in time.
by nadfflictar on Aug 24, 2009 9:42 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I don't want his slow feet protecting Palmer.
I want him and Crabtree to sit out and get paid a quarter of what they would have next year. Maybe that will teach future picks to thank God and take the money that’s offered.

Nadffilictar,if AS is lazy, out of shape and stupid as you say, that speaks volumes to the Bengals scouting department. The Browns want their cake and eat it too. They do the same thing year in and year out.IF they don’t want to pay out the $$$ then trade down before the draft or they could have passed on their pick.Of course, that would make them look stupid and unprepared.Come to think of it,that’s what they look like now. As each day goes by they are providing us with another WASTED draft pick. They readily admit that they build their club primarily on the draft. Were they hoping because of the recession to see the salaries go down ?? Why didn’t they jump in there and try and sign AS early ? I for one am not investing 1 cent of my money on this franchise until I see change and a commitmint to winning games not contracts.
