When did Chris Perry Change his Jersey Number from 26 to 23?

Hey guys,

I have been trying to find out exactly when Chris Perry changed his jersey number from 26 to 23. The reason being, I'm buying a jersey that was worn by him so the jersey number and date on the tag need to match up (anyone who collects game-worn jerseys will know what I'm talking about).

Now I know that Chris wasn't very popular umongst Bengals fans and I understand that.

I know he wore the number 26 during his 2004 rookie season and he wore the number 23 in 2005. What I need to find out is whether or not he changed his jersey number after the 2004 season ended, or if he changed it during the season?

I know he was injured during 2004 and didn't see much game-time at all, but I want to know if it is possible for him to have changed his number to 23 towards the end of the season.

A very obscure question, I know. But if anyone could share any details, it would be a big help.

Thanks :)

It was a night, just like tonight.

The sea was angry that day, my friends. Chris Perry climbed aboard that big fish, reached down into the blowhole to remove the obstruction, and pulled out the football.

He fumbled it soon afterwords but luckily recovered it for a .5 yard loss.

I believe....

He changed it during the 04 season. My fiance’ had gotten me a Perry jersey for my birthday, and i was pissed when he changed it to #23.She should’ve known better than to have bought me a jersey of a former Michigan player.GO Buckeyes!!!!!!!!

Thank you so so much.

I have searched the entire web and could not for the life of me find out exactly when he changed his number. I figured that Bengals fans would (for better or worse) remember when nobody else would.

But just to make sure I’m understanding you correctly, he changed his jersey number during the 2004 season and not after the 2004 season?

Thanks again.

Dennis Weathersby

Dennis Weathersby wore number #23 (Chris Perry’s college number) while with the Bengals. He was injured in a car accident in April of 2004 and did not play at all that season. The Bengals released him before the start of the 2005 season and that is when Chris Perry switched from #26 to #23.

But since Dennis did not play the entire season, how can we be sure that he had the rights to the number 23? Meaning, we do know that Perry wore the number 26 at the beginning of the 2004 season (as he only played in 2 games which can be seen on Getty Images) but how do we not know that he may have switched to the number 23 at the end of the season, even though he may have been on the bench?
